Author's Note: 244. That's the number of stories that were sitting on my hard drive collecting dust because I lack the energy and time to take care of them as I once did. My betaing pattern has always been to write, then type up if written on paper, the story, read it aloud to my beloved Jack and our children, editing as I go, and then finally format and post. Sadly, this part is simply taking too much of my time and energy, and my beloved Jack and I have too little time together in person these days to be able to keep up with my stories. So what to do? Give up writing? I actually considered it for a while, tried to make excuses to myself other than the large number of stories collecting cyber dust on my computer, as to why I lacked the energy and Muse to write new tales. And then, with the turn of the new year, I decided to stop running and face the problem. The problem is, quite frankly, that once one gets so bogged down in formatting and editing that writing is no longer a pleasure but the actual posting of those writings becomes a hassle and - egad! - work, it's time to cut something out, and that will never be the writing process. So, in short, yes, there will be mistakes in this tale. Yes, it's missing about half of the header information I usually include. But I wrote it for pleasure and am posting it in hopes of sharing that pleasure with others. Do with it as you will.
He toyed with his candy's wrapper, coiling its fragile ribbons around his long and lethal claws. He took his time, pacing his every action to make the moment, and the screaming music, last as he slowly unwrapped his candy. Each beat of the primal, frenzied music made his broad, hungry grin grow.
He took his time even as the poundings reverberating in his ears urged him to go faster. He would not rush this moment even if the music was beginning to get on his nerves. He would take his time and enjoy every moment of devouring his stolen candy.
The last shred of the wrapping finally fell away. The moonlight shone on Victor's red-stained claws. His dangerous grin gleamed as he feasted his emerald eyes on the revealed, creamy flesh.
Still, that which he had first thought of as music wouldn't shut up. He growled his annoyance and slashed his claws through his hard-earned candy, slicing off the bottom half. The music stopped, leaving an eerie silence in its wake.
Victor could finally enjoy his treat. He lifted up the top half, ignoring the bottom part for the moment, and dug his claws into the tender flesh. Juice spurted out; he immediately lapped it up.
It was hard not to eat all of the delicious morsel for which he had worked so diligently, but he had set his hungry eyes on this choice candy for a reason. He needed to send a message, and this particular message, unlike all the ones who had gone before it, would never be forgotten.
So he ate the head and left the body of the woman with a message, written in the last drops of her blood, for his beloved brother. He was his, and he'd better not forget it ever again! Victor howled his anguish that night, and Logan wailed his sorrow the next day.
The End
