Saving Elizabeth Swann

Captain Jack Sparrow sat in his cabin on the Black Pearl. He tapped his compass—still not working. He picked it up and shouted, "What else do I need to do for you to cooperate!"

"Well—" it said.

Jack stared at it in amazement, and then threw it across the room in horror. He rubbed his face and glanced at the half empty bottle of rum sitting on the desk beside him.

"Ouch, that hurt!" the compass whined.

Suddenly, Will Turner burst into the room. "Elizabeth fell overboard!" he cried.

"Why don't you put her in the brig so she'll stay out of trouble?" Jack said, rolling his eyes.

"We must save her!" Will said heroically.

"Here we go again," Jack sighed.

Will rushed from the cabin and onto the deck. Jack followed slowly, enjoying Will's frantic behavior and his frightened expression.

Jack looked over the railing, there was Elizabeth, flailing in the water.

Will grabbed a loose rope and called to the water, "Hang on, Lizzy! I'll save you!"

"And Jack, too!" Jack added with a drunken grin.

Will enthusiastically threw the rope over. It hit Elizabeth right on the head and she looked as if she was going to fall into unconsciousness. "Elizabeth!" Will screamed. But she grabbed the rope and seemed to be fine.

Jack and Will each grabbed the rope and pulled her up. They dragged her aboard. Jack took off his jacket and draped it around her, earning a glare from Will.

Elizabeth rushed to Will and hugged him tightly, saying, "You're my hero! You saved me!"

Then she pulled away from Will and turned to Jack and said, "You too!" and hugged him as well. Will glared at Jack more intensely as Elizabeth hugged him.

Jack just hugged her back, grinning mischievously at Will.

Then Elizabeth turned to Will and glared at him. "Why'd you push me in the water again?! And you hit me in the head with a rope!"

"I, uh…" Will said with an embarrassed smile. Elizabeth hit him roughly on the arm, causing Will to whimper and duck his head.

She cleared her throat and said, suddenly cheery again, "I should change into proper clothes. I shall be back." With that she turned on her heel and headed to her cabin. Will followed, looking more frightened than before.

Jack walked back to his cabin and slouched in his chair at his desk. He glanced at his compass, which was still lying on the ground across the room, and shuddered, afraid if he had been imagining that it spoke or not. He grabbed the rum bottle on his desk and drank it all in one gulp. He stood up suddenly and threw the bottle to the ground.

"Lizzy still has me jacket!"
