Jacob and the Angel
---
Even though they're twins, he never did tell Lena his greatest fear.
He hates the cold.
And now, as he dies in the Antarctic ice, he prays and hopes that the Bright Star will succeed. Not for his own good -- he knows he will die soon -- but for the good of others. No innocents should have to die here.
And so, as the ice crawls over his skin, immobilizes him, prevents him even from crying out, he hears a voice.
It's a cracking voice, the voice of a teenager, but he still loves it. It is the voice of a human, not of the merciless ice.
"Jacob?" it says in a sweet, melodious voice. "Jacob Tietz?"
"Yes," he answers, and to his surprise, his voice is strong and clear. "Yes, I'm here."
He is lifted from the ice, and in a low, grateful voice, Jacob Leonard Tietz thanks the Guardians of the Universe for coming to rescue him from the ice.
And as the last of his soul vanishes, as his vital signs flatline, there is a smile on his face.
Call it a Mona Lisa smile if you will.
He has finally, after these many years, conquered his greatest fear, and for Jacob, there could be no greater joy.
Jacob is with the angels now.

A/N: 220 words. So a double drabble and a fourth. The one fandom you've never heard of -- Starbright and the Dream Eater. I could expound, but I'll spare you my Antarctica-fangirl rantings for now. ;-) But only for now, mind you. Reviews are good.
