How did this get here? Is it fake? Should I go and find out? - these were all the questions racing through Zuko's brain when he discovered a sealed envelop on his desk containing a letter from someone who knew of the whereabouts of his mother.

His first emotion upon seeing this letter was excitement. The possibility that he could actually see his mother again was astonishing. Although, this excitement quickly turned to confusion and suspicion. It could be a trick. After all it did say to go alone. An enemy could just be trying to get him by himself to take him down. Of course he knew he could hold his own but with the possibility of never seeing his friends or Mai again may not be worth the risk.

Zuko had finally become happy. He had a life with friends and a wife and a nation to rule. It's all he had ever dreamed of having and more since he was a child. To drop all that for the small chance to see his mother again was a lot to ask. Of course before he had all this he would have given anything to see her, but he may have finally found something more important. She had left him a very long time ago. He could barely remember what her face looked like.

'knock knock knock' Mai came in equipped with a volleyball dressed in shorts and a tank top.

"Hey Zuko, can you please get Ty Lee off my case and come play volleyball with us?" She sighed putting a hand on her hip.

Zuko laughed, "Alright fine." He kissed her on the cheek, "Just let me finish up with my paperwork and I'll be right out."

"Good well I'm going to be playing on Ty Lee's team so you should probably ask Sokka or someone to be on yours." She replied turning away to try to hide her blush from the kiss.

"Alright, I'm sure he'd love to. Heard he's been teaching some class sword fighting and I'm sure he'll want a break."

Mai left leaving Zuko to finally make a decision on what he should do about this letter. Would he stay or choose to leave everyone behind to follow his mother?

He burned the letter and dumped it's ashes in the trash. He was certain nothing was worth leaving all this. He had a wonderful life now and he couldn't imagine the possibility of losing it all now. He left to go join Mai and the others.

. . . .

Zuko's mom watched from the window. She had seen the whole thing. As much as she wanted to see her son again she realized he had a good life with out her now. He was happy and that's all that mattered to her. She waved a small good bye and left. If only Zuko had known how close she really was. Would he have gone then?
