Really random. BOP has made me love Babs/Ted,so I decided i wanted to write a fic of them, pre-BOP. Set when Batman and Beetle where in the JLI. Beetle sees Babs as Batgirl. PreBOP. Batman slightly overprotective.

"So you haven't heard anything that's cause for me to return to Gotham."

"You sound almost wishful."

"I almost am."

Batman leaned back slightly, as he stared up at Barbara on the screen. He was being semi honest; this new league wasn't exactly what he thought it would be. Still, there was something about the members that secretly admired, and….maybe, possibly even enjoyed more than the old league, though he'd rather be dead than admit it. J'onn he'd always respected, and several others showed potential.

Speaking of the others….

Batman heard feet clicking on the floor, heading towards the monitor room. And he was making an unauthorized call.

And he had just gotten on Booster for that the other day…

"I have to go Batgirl. I'll check back later."

"Hey Batman-"

Blue Beetle poked his head through the door.

"Who you talking to Bats?" Beetle asked, looking up at the monitor just Batgirl's image clicked off the screen. "Don't tell me it's a meeting with your fan club?"

"Just checking back in at home," Batman stated, turning to face him. "And when did you decide to pick up eavesdropping as a hobby?"

"Hey, I thought it was just you and me, hearing another voice got me curious." Beetle replied, coming further into the room. "Especially since it was female." He looked at Batman curiously. "And you don't usually use the monitor for personal calls."

"I'll try and refrain in the future."

"She's cute," Beetle said, glancing up at the screen over Batman's shoulder where the girl in the bat tights had just been. "Are you and she-uh-"

"No," Batman responded curtly, not even bothering to glance away from the monitor to give Beetle even a small glare. Beetle nodded slowly, deciding that Batman being honest. "Ah. Well. That's good."

Batman started to type, assuming Beetle would leave the room now that he could no longer eavesdrop on any conversations, but Beetle continued to linger. Finally, after a about a quarter of an hour passed, Batman finally turned his head and snapped.

"Well?"

Beetle shifted uncomfortably under Batman's gaze, shifting his hands behind his back. "Uh…well…." He began awkwardly, shifting his gaze from Batman to the floor. "I was…uh-wondering…" He began toeing the floor awkwardly with a boot.

"Yes?" Batman barked, heading from irritated to really pissed off.

"Uh, if, well, you know her at all, and if so-"

"BEETLE!"

"Ifyououldgivemeherphonenumber?"

Quickly deciphering the jumbled of words, Batman looked at him. "Phone number?"

"Yeah," Beetle nodded, speaking animatedly. "She's really cute, and I always had a thing for red heads-" he stopped midsentence as he noticed Batman glowering furiously from his chair. "Out." The dark knight hissed, pointing towards the door.

"But I just-"

"OUT!" Batman bellowed, stepping towards him, Beetle let out a squeak and shot from the room.

As soon as he was gone, Batman lowered his arm and sat down to give his temples a good, deserved rub.

Meanwhile, in the hallway, Beetle sat near a wall, trying to steady his racing heart.

"Damn, I thought Bats was gonna pulverize me." he breathed, taking in a big gulp of air. "Talk about your overreaction."

He paused, thoughtful for a moment.

"I wonder if that was his sister?"
