The feeling of flying can't be compared to anything else…
There is nothing that I could hold more dearly then…freedom.
Nothing but, her….
Aang beamed at the crowd of Fire Nation kids that were dancing before him. He wove through the throng, stopping here and there to help someone with a dance move, or just to dance himself.
Finally, he strode to the end of the, now, music filled cave and looked down at the beautiful water bender that he had fallen deeply in love with. He gazed lovingly at her, her perfectly full lips, her shining midnight blue eyes, her smooth tan skin and her soft waterfall of brown hair, cascading gracefully down her back. Her sculpted eyebrows drawn together in deep concentration. She sighed dreamily, completely unaware of Aang's presence.
He smiled tentatively, taking a moment more to study her perfect features. He took a deep breath and held out his hand.
"Katara?" he asked tentatively.
She looked up suddenly, slowly comprehending the man standing before her and his outstretched hand. Color was slowly rising into her cheeks.
"Oh, Aang…I didn't see you there…You know, I…I really can't dance…and these shoes…" she trailed off mindlessly, looking up at his now slightly beseeching face.
"Take my hand." He said, looking lovingly at her.
Katara stared up at his light face, and could only see the love he held for her and the desire she felt to grab his hand.
"Ok." She said softly, taking his hand.
He pulled her gently to the dance floor, and bent over to whisper in her ear, "Just like we practiced..."
She thought that he was about to say something more. But he drew back instead.
She could not suppress the feeling of emptiness that suddenly overtook her.
It was just in her imagination, she reasoned with herself.
She looked back at her lover and bowed respectfully, as she would during those water bending lessons so long ago…
The next thing she knew she was in his arms and they were twirling, flipping and dancing so smoothly, that she was sure, to an outsider's eye, it looked rehearsed.
When their tango finally finished, she was breathless and her heart was pounding frantically, drops of sweat dripped down her face. But, none of that mattered, for she was only a few inches away from Aang's face. She could have easily pulled his head down and planted a kiss on his warm lips. But she resisted and instead gazed lovingly into his shining grey eyes and knew, just knew that everything would turn out right….
