I wandered around the field where my brother was last seen. One mile out of the town. My brother had joined the army when he was 17, I was only 3. He came home for a few days every year for 3 years. Then we got a message. During the first battle of Galveston (Well more of a skirmish) he was in charge of evacuating the women and children, he hasn't been seen since. He would have been 29 four days ago, I turned 16 yesterday. Jasper's been missing for 10 years...

"Hello."

I looked up. A small girl, a tiny brunet with snow white skin stood a few feet from me.

"Hello." I murmured, tucking a stray hand of blond hair behind my ear, something I do when I'm nervous.

The girl gave a little sniff. Then her dark colored eyes widened. "What's your name, little girl?"

"Piper Whitlock."

Her eyes lit up with shock. "Could it be? A living relative of Jasper?"

My own eyes widened at my brother's name. "Jasper!" I gasped. "My brother!"

Her eyes glinted. "So your Jasper's sister?"

"Yes."

She smiled. "I truly hope you survive, Piper. You and Jasper have the same bloodlines, you could be of use to me." She sauntered tords me. Now that she was close to me, I could see her eyes were blood red. She smiled, showing sharp white teeth. She lunged for my neck, I screamed.
