After All That We've Been Through
First Year:
"Hey, gorgeous. Can I ride in your boat?" A young James Potter stood over Lily Evans, smiling. She eyed him, starting with his feet and working her way up to his messy hair.
"I think not," she replied, and pushed him in the lake, Sirius's and Remus's guffaws echoing as he came up sputtering.
"That's okay, you're still gorgeous."
…
Second Year:
"Lily?" The redhead looked up from her copy of the Daily Prophet, a spoonful of cereal halfway to her mouth, into James's smile. "Will you help me with my charms essay? I know you're really, really smart," he told her.
"Um… let's see. Nope." She folded up her newspaper and left, breakfast forgotten.
"Damn."
…
Third Year:
"Oi! Evans!" A boy with jet black hair yelled, panting, as he ran towards her.
"What, Potter?" She watched his smile as he pushed his glasses back up his nose.
"Wanna go to Hogsmeade with me?" He quirked an eyebrow.
"Of course not, James. Why would I want to go with someone as annoying as you?" She spun on her heel, nearly pushing Sirius into the lake in her attempt to get away.
"Er… Prongs? You might want to take that as a no."
"Shut up, you prat." And then James really did push him into the lake.
…
Fourth Year:
Lily heard the familiar sound of the carriage door opening.
"Yes?" James Potter's smiling face loomed into her line of sight as he leaning against the glass, an apple in hand.
"So, Lillian, I just wanted to let you know that I changed over the summer." He smirked, taking a large bite of the fruit.
"I only have two things to say to that, Potter. A, my name is not Lillian," she spat out. "And B, I still won't go out with you, James." She promptly slammed the door. Her friend Alice turned to her.
"Well, at least you got that taken care of right off the bat…."
…
Fifth Year:
"She is not… one of THOSE," James roared at Severus, who was trying to escape the Quidditch player's clutches. He turned to smile weakly at Lily.
"You'd better go, I'm not sure you'll want to see this. Or, rather, I'm not sure that this prat will want you to see this." There was a malicious gleam in his eyes, and, as much as she wanted to feel bad for Sev, she couldn't.
…
Sixth Year:
He grinned, "So, I hear that you've landed yourself a Friday detention cleaning trophies…."
"And?" Lily prompted him.
"So have I." He smirked at this statement, most likely due to her expression. "What? No horror?"
"Not this time, James. After all, detention can't be that bad."
…
Seventh Year:
"So, Head Girl, huh?" James beamed from his spot on platform nine and three quarters. "I've always thought that the Head Boy and Girl should be together…" She looked horrorstruck.
"You want me to date Remus?" He chuckled.
"No, I want you to date the Head Boy," he paused. "Me."
Lily froze in shock. "You?"
"Always the tone of surprise… So, what do you say?"
"Um…" Lily studied him, really studied him. "Sure."
"Aww… why no—wait. Yes?"
"Yes," she confirmed, smiling at his shocked face.
…
Number One.
So… this was a quick one. I hammered it out in about half an hour… reviews appreciated. Remember, I'm only posting this because I didn't get enough flames last time I tried it(:
