"You can't be serious!" Lorelai laughed, dumping some Pop-Tarts onto a plate.

Rory came out of her room in her uniform with her tie hanging loosely around her neck, giggling as well, "No joke. Her family is crazy."

Lorelai took the plate of breakfast foods and placed it down on the table, "Tell me more."

"Okay, well her real family name is Gunther but when her grandfather was 22 he changed it to Dickinson and claimed to be related to Emily."

"Emily Gilmore?"

Rory was not amused, "No, Mother, Emily Dickinson." At Lorelai's blank look the younger woman continued, "The poet."

"Ah, yes, Emily Dickinson, the poet. How could I forget? But you have to understand my reasoning here. You say this girl's family is crazy so it would only make sense for her to be related to Emily Gilmore."

"Mom," Rory groaned and stood up to finish getting ready for school.

Lorelai followed her daughter into her room and continued the conversation, "So this girl, what'd you say her name was?, told you all this during lunch yesterday?"

"Yeah, Gina," Rory emphasized the girl's name, "sat with me in the lunch room and decided it would be a perfect time to tell me her life story."

"But you're the most antisocial person there. Why would she think you'd want to listen?"

Rory shrugged, "I think she thought she was saving me from boredom. She noticed I was reading Moby Dick."

Lorelai smirked, "My new best friend."

Rory shot her mother a look but Lorelai continued talking, "But she doesn't sound all that crazy. I mean, she's got nothing on Sylvia Plath."

Rory glared at her mother who just retreated from the room with a laugh.

A few minutes later, Rory re-entered the kitchen and sat next to Lorelai, who had begun flipping through magazines, "You know, you're kind of like Emily."

Lorelai looked up in horror, "Gilmore?!"

"No," Rory sighed, "Dickinson. She didn't get along with her mother either."

"Oh yeah, I am so much like Emily Dickinson. My poetry-writing tendencies are out of this world," Lorelai replied sarcastically and went back to her magazine. Rory grabbed another Pop-Tart and stood to finish packing her book bag.

After another few minutes she leaned down and kissed her mother's cheek, "I'm going to catch the bus. I'll be home by 5."

Lorelai nodded, "I'll be at the Inn. Luke's for dinner?"

"Sounds good," Rory responded as she picked up her bag and headed towards the door.

Before Rory left the house she heard Lorelai call out, "You wanna know something else about Emily Gilmore?"

After Rory remained silent for a few moments, Lorelai continued, "Sylvia Plath had nothing on her."
