It's cold. Freezing, actually. Snow is falling everywhere, blurring her vision.
She didn't think it snowed in Texas. Shows what she knew.
She sees her reflection in the window, just barely. No makeup. She stopped bothering with it after her first week in Witness Protection.
The silence is killing her. She needs to say something, anything, to the agent driving her to her new home. No, driving her away from her old home. "I'd rather be dead, you know." And she would. She would rather die than lose her life again.
She wonders if he's ever heard that before. Ever had some other unfortunate soul forced into hiding tell him that. She wouldn't be surprised.
The agent keeps his eyes on the road. He can't be much older than she is. She wonders if he has a family, a wife and kids, or if he's alone like she is.
"What's your name?"
Her name. Her name. He's asked her that question more than a dozen times, making sure she doesn't forget. She chokes up every time she has to answer. She can't, doesn't want to say the name. To make it just that much harder, she has her name now. Every time someone calls her, she'll think of her. She isn't sure if she can deal with that. She isn't sure she wants to.
Her name is Alexandra Cabot, and it always will be. Even if only a handful of people know it. But for now she can't be Alexandra Cabot. Just for a little longer, she tells herself every night. Just a little longer, and she'll be able to go back home. Back where she belongs.
But until that day comes, she reminds herself, she'll be strong. She has to be. Until that day comes...
"My name is Olivia."
