A new house. A new neighborhood. New neighbors. New clothes. New school. New friends. New...

"Mia, get some boxes or something honey, don't just stand there."

"Ok, mom."

Mia picked up 2 boxes that go to her new room, knick knacks and desk items. She carried them up the long 17 stairs to her new room. The floors creaked, the windows were dusty. It looked as if nobody had used this room in a while.

She sat the boxes down and looked around. All the family left was a bed side table and a chair. They were made completely of wood. The chair was older than dirt, but it interested her. She didn't know why. She touched it lightly, running her fingers up and down the arm rests. Something about this chair...

"Mia? Are you up there?"

"Yeah mom. I'm looking around."

She glanced over at the bed side table. Deserted. Dusty. Old.

"Hello. I'm Mr. Harvey your next door neighbor."

He handed me a batch of cookies. They looked fresh baked.

"Why hello. I'm Hayley. This is my lovely daughter, Mia."

"Hello Mia. It's a pleasure to meet you."

"Yeah, hi." Mia mumbled.

"My husband is in the back. You can go around if you would like to meet him."

"I think I will Mrs..."

"Hume."

"Ok, Mrs. Hume."

Four months later

Mia walked by Mr. Harveys house. He was tending to his roses. Like everyday.

"Good morning Mr. Harvey."

He grunted. She guessed that meant good morning.

There was someting going on with Mr. Harvey. He wasn't acting right and he never let her inside his basement, nor his bedroom. She loved to look at his doll house. It was very pretty, with all the small people and furniture. She could spend hours just looking at it. Though, she was always rushed off as soon as it got dusk. Strange thing is, his bedroom light would stay on for the next couple hours. Oh, she'll never never understand Mr. Harvey.
