Whoa. Done in 15 minutes. This poem was inspired by Strength by Sardonic Kender Smile, but it's about Nils this time. You can't expect much from a 15 minute poem, so be easy on me. Thanks.

All around me, their smiles have faded

The smiles I once saw on their faces

Now stolen away by the despair of war

-

I know why they feel so.

The battlefield is a depressing place.

Full of excitement, of thrill,

But still,

Depressing.

-

How could they withstand a life,

Each day, full of violence,

Each night full of anxiety?

-

How could they bear all the bloodshed they witness

All the bloodshed they cause themselves

The screams they have incited, the screams they have

Ended

The thousands of times they have watched a life

Fade away?

-

Together with the ones they kill,

Their spirit is dying.

Their will to fight flees

In the darkness and oppression of war.

-

They battle not for their own causes;

They battle for my kin and my homeland.

And I don't want to see them suffer,

But wish as I may, I can't put a stop to it.

-

But this is what I can do—

I can give them strength.

I can give them new energy,

Make them forget their terror,

Though only for a few fleeting moments.

-

No, I won't ever understand how it feels to kill

I won't ever understand what they go through,

Every moment of ever battle.

-

But I will play for them.

I'll play for them the songs they once heard at home,

The songs that represent the people,

The songs that will remind them of all they fight for.

-

Come, I'll be your strength.

Let me play for you.
