The darkness of the night had already swallowed up the world. It was even darker in the Mist, the most dangerous place on the continent. The Mist covered the valleys on the continent, the safest place to be was above it, in the mountains.
And that's where one particular group was planning to go.

A tent was up outside of a forest, a small but comfortable tent. Beside it a few feet away was a small fire with two boys sitting around it. One was short, wearing a pointed-hat, and wore a blue outfit. His name was Vivi, a black mage.
The other was a boy who had a monkey-like tail, wore a blue vest and blue pants. His hair was short, yet had a small ponytail in the back. His name was Zidane Tribal.
Vivi couldn't really sleep, he was a bit afraid of what would happen if he did, so he occasionally talked to Zidane. He had met Zidane earlier in Alexandria, and he was a pretty good guy from what Vivi knew. "Hey Zidane...?"
Zidane, who had been staring at the fire, looked over at Vivi. "What's wrong?"

"I know that I already said it before but...thanks for saving me earlier," Vivi said. It was earlier that Zidane, along with the knight known as Steiner, had saved Vivi from a man-eating plant. They had defeated it with ease.

Zidane gave a smile, "You're welcome, Vivi."

Vivi had noticed there was something different about Zidane now then when he had fought the plant. When Zidane had fought the plant, he had changed, that Vivi was sure of.

"What happened to you...?" the boy asked, with a little interest.

"You mean Trance?" Zidane replied with a question of his own.

Vivi gave a nod.

"It's never happened to me before, I know that for sure. When Garnet was captured by that plant, the only thing I could think about was 'I have to save her!' Before I knew it, a pink light engulfed me, my appearance had changed, and my power sky-rocketed," Zidane explained. He looked at the fire, remembering how angry he was when Garnet had been caught. Maybe that's why it happened?, he thought to himself.

"You think I'll be able to use Trance one day?" Vivi asked, laying down.

Zidane layed down as well, "Sure...when the time is right."

Both went to sleep.
The next morning, the group packed up and began their arduous journey through the Mist.
