Introduction
There was always this thing about her. Lucy. Her name rang in his ear like a bell. Her golden blond hair, her chocolate brown eyes, the way she smiled when she caught him staring at her, which, frankly, was quite often. Natsu wasn't one to believe in falling in love, but he felt he just might be. And he was, they both were. At Juvia's Christmas party, they both ended up under the mistletoe together. As cheesy as it was, Natsu was well-aware that Lucy loved cheesy. She was awfully short, in an adorable kind of way. As they stood under the mistletoe together, Natsu realized his heart belonged to her, and he hoped that her heart belonged to him. And as he stared into her sparkling eyes, the same way he always did, he slowly reached for the soft touch of her hand. Her beauty truly stunned him. Her presence was in itself enough to make him wanna throw up, but in the good way. His heart began to beat faster and faster, veins popping out of his head, the way they always did when he became overwhelmed. She smiled at him. He was a bit embarrassed. Lucy seemed so relaxed while his heart throbbed out of his chest. After a few moments of staring, Natsu bent down slowly to kiss Lucy on her cherry-red lips. After the kiss, everything seemed to be going amazingly afterwards.
Until about two months later.
Chapter One: Falling
"What the hell do you mean I can't go in? I have to see her!"
"You can't."
"Hell yeah I can! That's m-"
"We're preforming tests on her!"
Natsu was furious. Veins popped out of his forehead, his neck, his arms. In the morning, while the two of them had been walking together after eating with the rest of the gang at Fairy Tail, Lucy had grown more and more tired by the minute. After a while, she lost consciousness, leaving Natsu to feel worried and helpless. He made sure to bring her to the doctor, where she was taken to do tests and be examined. His heart ached. He hated being without Lucy, and he was worried sick about what could be wrong with her.
After 6 grueling hours, Natsu was able to see Lucy. He ran into the room she was being tested in and got on his knees beside her.
"Lucy, are you alright? I'm so so sorry. They wouldn't let me in the room. I went to buy you water and snacks and I brought your favorite books and I-"
"Natsu..."
He looked up from the bag he was scrambling around in.
"W-what?" He looked around at everyone, all having worried looks on their faces.
"She has terminal cancer," Doctor Arae said.
Natsu's eyes widened. He looked at Lucy, hoping this was a prank or a joke.
"Lucy, is this true...?"
She nodded and reached for Natsu's trembling hand as she lay in the bed, having very little feeling in her body.
"She has exactly 364 days to live. Each part of her body will weaken and paralyze, until all that's left is her pulse, slowly deteriorating until she slips away."
Natsu squeezed Lucy's hand tightly, looking down as he tried to hide the tears. He didn't want to look weak in front of such a strong girl.
Lucy rubbed his head gently as the other doctor began to speak.
"Yeah, you better make the most of the time you have together now, because before you know it she'll be de-"
"Shut the hell up..." Natsu's trembling hand turned into a violent shake. "Shut up!"
Lucy looked at Natsu wearily. The doctors stared awkwardly.
"You may go. Come to us if there are any problems. Once her legs give out, she is to come here with you and her loved ones and remain here until she dies."
Natsu grumbled at the request and nodded. He picked Lucy up, sitting her on his shoulders, and walked out.
After they arrived at Lucy's place, they both changed into pajamas and laid down in Lucy's bed.
"Lucy."
"Hmm?"
"I promise I'll make these 364 days last."
He put his thumb on her chin and lifted her head to kiss her softly.
"That was kiss number one. You'll get a kiss every day until I can't kiss you anymore."
Lucy smiled softly and laid on Natsu's bare chest.
"Lucy."
She looked up at him.
"I love you, princess."
"I love you too, Natsu.
They laid in silence and calmness until they both drifted off to sleep.
I hope you liked the first chapter. I'll probably update a lot so be ready for more. It will probably get dirtier so try to be prepared for that. :)
