I do not own any of the characters or places in this story. They belong to J.K. Rowling

"I'm sorry Lily! It just slipped out!" I say to her retreating back. "Oh it just slipped out didn't it?!" She says turning around to face me, her eyes aflame. "Do you know how many excuses I have for you since I started here?! I would tell people you were different! That they could trust you! I stuck up for you when James bullied you! And you repay me by calling me a Mudblood! I will never forgive you!" And then she turns around and runs off. I hear her sobs. I will never forgive myself for making her cry. Then I vow to myself that I will never love anyone like I love Lily…actually to never love anyone at all.

On October 31, 1981 I headed to Godric's Hallow to apologize for the worst mistake of my life. But when I get to the place where Lily lives it is burned into nothingness. Just two dead bodies and a screaming child. Lily is dead, and her son, Harry is screaming in his crib. I walk to the child and see a letter on the ground, which to my utmost shock is addressed to me.

Dear Sev, I forgive you. I forgave you a long time ago. I love you. Always have and always will. Please do me one last thing. Protect my son, Harry, from Lord Voldemort. And when I said all of those hurtful things to you when you called me a Mudblood they were never true. Protect my son, please. With all my love, Lily.

"Of course I will Lily." I whisper to her although I know she cannot hear me. I slip the letter into the inner pocket of my robes and pick up the child. "You have your mother's eyes." I say to him and he stops crying. "I will protect you Harry, for your mother."
