It's time, the "First Year-Ace" is moving on!

A year has already gone by since I met her. Who would have thought Yomi and I would still be together and kickin' it? I just hope we don't get different classes. Now that would be a bummer…

"Are you excited for this new year, Mato?", Said Yomi after a few minutes of silence. We've been together through thick and thin. Losing her company, even if only for a few hours…

After at least a second, at most two, I answer, "Yep! Though homework's another matter…", I tell her, feeling the excitement being drained away. "Mato… Even though I help you, you don't want to do it?" That… is a good argument. "Y-you know that's not what I meant! I enjoy it if I do it with you. You somehow make the 'boring', fun!" I see her sigh in fake exasperation, "I should hope so, I'm always coming to your house or you to mine to do it."

We keep talking about what's ahead of us when we reach the school's gates. Was I so distracted that time flew by so quickly…? Near the gates, we see that board. The one where everyone's classes are displayed. I look at Yomi, feeling nervous. "Just think positive", she whispers loud enough for me to hear.

"…We're in different classes…", I whisper in dismay, "though there's nothing we can do about it." "Yeah… Nothing we can do about it…", said the green eyed heiress. Well… I can still visit her at her classroom, and we can still go home together… still…

At least being in a different class tan Yomi isn't all bad things. Now I'm stuck with the "Super Manager" Yuu for the rest of the year. She's been cool to hang out with as far as I've been with her. Then again, I still miss Yomi; don't think I'm just using Yuu to distract myself! She's nice and all but… It would be nice to see Little Birds play…

As I sulk, Yuu still talks about how one of the Basketball Club girls tripped during practice. While I'm lost in my thoughts, suddenly a dark shade of green fills my vision. It's a shade of green I recognize all too well.

"Yomi! You're here!", I exclaim happily and stand up. She just smiles at my actions and hugs me lightly. "Did you not expect me, miss 'First Year-Ace'?", she says with a hint of mischief in her voice. I just answer while hugging her back, "That's not it, you should know it! I just… didn't notice the bell or anything." Yuu joins the conversation unexpectedly, "Don't think I didn't notice you ignoring me. I just decided to let you mumble about this 'Yomi' girl when she came in", she says while sticking out her tongue playfully. Wait… Mumble about what?

"Aw… Did you miss me that much?", said Yomi while patting my head. "H-hey, I was just… b-bored. Yeah! Bored! A-and… I… kept thinking 'bout you…", I trail off, feeling more and more embarrassed. I didn't notice I was saying it out loud, darn it!

Just when I'm about to answer, the bell interrupted me. What? For how long was I spacing out before she came!? "Ah, it seems I have to go…", said my green eyed friend. Before she is even near the classroom's door, I grab her arm and say nervously, "W-wait. We're going home together, right?" Her only answer is a nod, accompanied by her gentle-natured smile. I return the smile, feeling more relieved and watch her walk back to her own class. I stay there until something pokes my cheek. When I turn around, I find Yuu sticking out. "Hey. Come back from Dreamland, it's time for class." She goes back to her own seat and I follow after, sitting back down as the teacher began speaking.

Finally, after a tedious day, Yomi and I are back together at the school's gates. "Hey there, Lil' Birds play!", I greet her, making her giggle, and pat her in the back lightly. "Sooo… How was your day? We weren't able to speak like always back there." She just smiles her usual smile; "Nothing worth of mention. Just a boring day… Though I did visit my 'First Year-Ace'", she teases me, yet again, about my nickname given to me by Yuu. "Dammit, Yomi, stop that…" I grumble. I'm glad not much has changed and all but this is something I could trade over anything. We start walking home together like always. "I'll stop the day little birds do not play anymore, missy," she says, emphasizing the last part of her sentence. "Oh, don't you dare…" I trail off while playfully threatening her, unable to hide my smile. "Yes, I dare! Stop it already, my last name is Takanashi and will always be Takanashi. Leave the whole Kotori Asobi thing alone, Mato," she says, turning serious by the end.

As we keep walking, I realize something. I'm not letting this opportunity slip up.

"Are you sure about it always being Takanashi? 'Cause I don't think your future spouse agrees!" I exclaim mischievously as start running. She runs after me while looking angry, but something tells me the emotion doesn't reach her heart. "Hey, get back here! You're absolutely not getting away!"

We keep running, the previous banter already forgotten, until we reach the intersection where we usually meet. "Say, Mato…", she begins while panting lightly, "do you want to go…there?" I already know what she means. The idea of her still wanting to go makes me happy; our friendship will not perish! "As long as you want to go there, Yomi," I answer. She giggles and takes my hand, making me smile. We walk together to our spot to spend a few extra minutes together until we have to separate yet again. What I don't know is what Yomi thinks.

The green eyed heiress just wonders for a moment. Will Mato and this Yuu…get closer over time…? She interrupts her train of thought before it can go any further. Green and Blue eyes look happy at the moment, while another set of eyes is fixated on the green haired heiress.
