"I love you." She stared at the ground.
The man looked at her blankly. "I-I can't do anything for you. I'm sorry."
She looked up with uncertain eyes. "What are you saying?"
"You've known me for a long time. You should know." He bit his lip.
She wrung the frilling of her skirt. "Yes, yes, you're right. I've been such a fool all this time."
"These circumstances, these times, there's no way..."
"I understand."
He looked at her and closed his eyes. "Then why are you crying?"
She held her breath. "Why do you care?"
"I'm still your friend, if nothing else..."
"Please go..."
"I don't think you want me to."
"No, I know I want you to."
The man stood up and walked slowly to the door. He sighed as he opened it, paused, and then walked briskly away.

"Meryl, BREAKFAST!!!" Millie knocked, er, pounded on Meryl's door. "Meryl, are you awake?" She sighed and opened the door. "Meryl, get up! It's already
eleven and your breakfast is getting cold!"
Millie stepped over to the bed and poked her. "Meryl?" Poking went to shaking. "Meryl!?" Yelling went to screaming.

"Is she okay doc'?" Millie's anxious hands were clutched tightly together.
"I'm sorry miss, but she's been gone since early morning."
Her eyes glistened with profuse tears. "What?"
"Pills are an ambiguous thing." The doctor left the girl as she fell to her knees, shaking uncontrollably.

Vash walked grimly to the grave. Taking a single white rose from his pocket, he placed his thumb on a thorn and put pressure. Squeezing a single crimson drop
onto a petal, he dropped the rose onto the mount. He looked into the sky and saw Rem with her shorter counterpart.
