"What's that?" Kentaro asked himself, staring up ahead, "A butterfly?"
Yes, on Kentaro's mailbox was something, but indeed not a butterfly. The "butterfly" appeared to be sitting with its legs up against the chest, looking dreamily ahead.
Kentaro reached the mailbox and put his head closer up to the little person.
"Who are you?" the butterfly asked. However, no, it wasn't a butterfly!
"WHAT ARE YOU?" Kentaro exclaimed, eyes growing wider. It was a small girl; a fairy. Not the kind you see in Zelda or in some other video games where it is only a small light. Moreover, in some stories the fairies are always beautiful, like little angels. This girl was not extremely beautiful, but she was average looking. She just had reddish-brown hair that went down to her mid-back, and her small blue eyes glistened with delight.
"Do you believe in me?" she asked, standing up. She was barely taller than Kentaro's index finger and wearing little brown boots that reached up to her knees. For a shirt, she wore two leaves, strapped to her chest. Yeah, it covered everything, don't worry! She had a small skirt made of small bunches of green and brown leaves, which was very short. Kentaro didn't really notice that it didn't really cover her thigh, because he was used to his girlfriend wearing shorter things.
"Hello!" She called, waving her arms. On the right, one was a brown tattoo. Kentaro couldn't make out the markings even when he squinted.
"Who are you?" he asked weakly. Hey, it wasn't every day you came upon a fairy sitting on your mailbox!
"Fayette," answered Fayette, happy she was finally gaining some progress of this young guy, "Can you help me? I've been earthed."
What?
"Earthed?" Kentaro asked, stepping back, his brown eyes locked on Fayette. She nodded, "Yes, earthed." What a weird thing, being "earthed". Wasn't everyone that way? On the earth...?
"Earthed is when a fairy accidentally touches a human being, and that person doesn't believe in fairies. We cannot fly, just walk. I climbed on top of this thing to see if I could find that old woman whom I ran into yesterday. She doesn't believe a pinch in me, and I've lost her. I'm afraid I'll never be able to fly," but then Fayette smiled, "Unless YOU want to help me so by coming to your senses and believing in me."
"That's just...unbelievable!" Kentaro said nervously. He didn't like seeing something that wasn't real.
Fayette stamped her foot, making a small dull sound on the metal of the mailbox, "No it's not!" she yelled, "Would it make me real if you could touch me!" When Kentaro nodded, she held out her hand. Kentaro reached out and poked her little hand with his finger and…she was real! He could feel her warm fingers grip his finger.
"Now, there you go!" Fayette smiled, buzzing her wings and instantly shooting up into the air. Kentaro couldn't help but smile, since she was so happy.
"So…….." Fayette flew in front of his face, "Whatchya called?" she asked.
"Kentaro Murakami," he replied, awed by the fluttering of her wings.
"Hmm…That's nice," Fayette shrugged, turning and flying off. When she was a blur, Kentaro called out, "HEY! WHERE ARE YOU GOING?"
