"Katniss! Katniss!," I scream. How could I have been so stupid! I walked right into a trap. I struggled to free myself from the ropes, with no success. I could hear Katniss's voice in the distance. She was screaming, "Rue! Rue I'm coming!" I saw her face just before the spear entered my stomach.
I closed my eyes because of the terrible pain. I looked over to see the boy who injured me. He had an arrow in his throat. I looked up to see Katniss with her bow in her hand. I saw her lips moving, but I couldn't hear anything. Finally, I understood. She was asking, "Are there more? Are there more?" "No," I answered. I winced. It hurt to speak. I could see small tears flowing down her face. "Thanks for coming back for me." "I would never leave you," she answered. She began freeing me from the rope's grasp.
We stared into eachother's eyes for a bit. "Katniss," I say. "Yes," she whispers. "Will you sing a song for me," I ask. Katniss hesitates. "Please," I beg. Huh. I'm the one dying and I'm the one begging? Geez. That's messed up. Katniss starts singing with a perfect pitch. The song is so beautiful and happy. I close my eyes and listen. I swear even the birds stopped to listen.
My heart beat was slowing, and I knew I was dying. Katniss could tell too. She started to get choked up, but she kept singing. She was ending her song. I knew my life was ending too. I closed my eyes, and pretended to be in the meadow. The beautiful flowers blooming every which way. It started to become hard to breathe. Katniss's song ended. She whispered, "I promise I'll win for both of us. Goodbye." She planted a soft kiss on top of my head and walked away.
I took my final breath. The pain stopped. I felt so peaceful. I looked down to see my body motionless on the ground. Katniss came back to my body. She began weaving wildflowers into my hair and around my body. I turned around to see a glowing figure staring at me. "Don't worry. She's safe," the figure said. I couldn't stop the grin that formed on my face. "I was hoping you would say that," I replied.
