Disclaimer: OK, so I took some liberties with certain characters that don't belong to me. If they did, I'd be rich grin

This has been rattling around in my brain since last winter when one Tuesday night, the weather gods decided to dump two feet of perfect snow in the few hours before dawn and so, everyone was snowed in. The morning dawned clear, cold, and sunny. Since there was so much snow, no one went to work and it was silent.

Now I live near woods but there were no planes in the air, no cars on the road, not even the sound of church bells in the center of town.

Later on, it started to snow again and it was so quiet, I could actually hear the snow falling. I spent the day curled up next to a roaring fire, listening to Sarah McLachlan's "Song For A Winter's Night" and came up with this story.

Even though the lyrics to the song are about separation from the one you love, I couldn't help but just see this little place out in the woods in the middle of the winter. Enjoy

Song For A Winter's Night

by Sarah McLachlan

The lamp is burning low upon my table top
The snow softly falling
The air stills in the silence of my room
I hear your voice softly calling

If I could only have you near
To breathe a sigh or two
I would be happy just to hold the hands I love
On this winter's night with you

The smoke is rising in the shadows overhead
My glass is almost empty
I read again between the lines upon each page
The words of love you send me

If I could know within my heart
That you were lonely too
I would be happy just to hold the hands I love
On this winter's night with you

The fire is dying, my lamp is growing dim
The shades of night are lifting
The morning light steals across my windowpane
Where webs of snow are drifting

If I could only have you near
To breathe a sigh or two
I would be happy just to hold the hands I love
And to be once again with you
