The sequel to Wings!
Alec rubbed his sore wrists as he snuck into the Institute. He hoped he wouldn't have to explain where he'd been for three days, as he crept down the dark hallway. Suddenly the lights turned on, and he found himself staring down two sets of disapproving eyes. He blanched as his parabatai, and worse, his mother glared at him.
"So I hear you've been out," Jace began, leaning against a wall.
Alec attempted to reply but whatever he was going to say came out in a squeak that was cut off by Maryse.
"And you've obviously not been sleeping on the street. So where have you been?" she drawled.
"Out," Alec murmured.
"We know that. But where is 'out' exactly?" she said.
"Uh, Brooklyn…" Alec said, feeling himself being backed into a corner.
"Brooklyn. I knew it. That's ten bucks you owe me," Jace crowed, turning to Maryse with his hand held out.
She muttered something foul as she handed a crumpled bill over to shiny boy, who pulled at the ends, beamed, and skipped off.
"Alec, what are you doing?" she said, her voice changing from one of angry mother to concerned elder.
"I don't know, but I think it's right, Mom," Alec said.
"Don't tell Jace, but Isabelle actually told me where you were. She didn't want me to kill you when you came home. Don't worry, I haven't told your father," Maryse said.
"That bitch," Alec said under his breath.
"What was that?" Maryse asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Nothing, Mom," Alec said. "I just came home to get some sleep and then I'm going back… I've got to make sure Magnus doesn't flee the country. And also I came home so he won't kill me when he finds out I covered his cat in strawberry jam then dumped glitter all over him in the middle of the night."
Maryse just stared after her son as he sauntered off into his bedroom.
Kekekeke. I couldn't resist covering Chairman Meow in glitter. Who wants his opinion on this?
