Chapter 1
Petra Parker looked over her newly furnished apartment and unpacked apartment. She had just moved to this new city from New York and already she was itching to suit up and head out but she resisted. This was supposed to be her new start away from the hero life, that was why she had moved to the home of Batman and away from New York.
She had decided to move to Gotham because in her Aunt May's Will was a building that her parents' had owned and had Aunt May and Uncle Ben be in control of the property until their deaths' which had come too soon in her opnion.
The ownership had gone to her and she had moved into the second floor, turning it into a luxury living space and turning the first floor into a coffee shop that was opening the next day. Hopefully, it would be a success.
She went to bed, knowing that it would be a long day tomorrow.

The next day Petra got up bright and early around three, dressing in worn clothes that she could get dirty in and then walking downstairs, knowing that she was going to be open in three hours.
She began brewing all of the different types of food that people could order to go with their drink of choice. She had bagels, donuts, cinnamon rolls, danishes, coffee cake, cookies, soup, sandwiches, cakes, and cupcakes that she put into the heated display window with little cards describing what each item was, along with the prices of each.
And then Petra began to brew the different flavors of coffee she had from the coffee beans her parents had left her. This place had been a coffee shop that her parents had owned when they were alive but her aunt and uncle had shut it down after they had passed, thinking it was too much of a hassle at the time.
After making sure that everything that was brewing was almost done, Petra raced upstairs and showered before dressing in nice clothes and moving back down the stairs to the coffee shop to finish opening the place. She put the chairs down on the tables, wiped it all down and fluffed the pillows on the couches and made sure the magazines and newspapers were in easy reach by the couches before moving to the door and unlocking it and turning the unlit sign on to show that they were open.
Petra had decided to call the place 'A Spider's Web'.
And when the first few customers crept in and took in the breathtaking decor and tried her coffee as well as baked goods, they were indeed insnared in a spider's web.
Word began to spread as every day more and more people journeyed into the coffee shop and told their friends and family about the place. And it wasn't long before Petra had to hire on a staff to help her get through the busy days.
And it was night when she was closing by herself on a rare slow night that he walked in through her doors.
Petra looked up, smiling at the elderly man in front of her. "Hello, sir what can I get you tonight?"
The man replied with a British accent. "Well, my dear, my employer's assistant has been getting him coffee from her for over a month now but unfortunately she has been out sick with the cold for the past couple days and he is going through withdrawals. He asked me to come down and get him a cup as well as any coffee cake that you might have left over."
Petra smiled again. "Why, of course! I just baked a new loaf just a couple hours ago and no once has come in to order any so how much of the coffee cake would you like and what type of coffee?"
"Hm, well I might as well take all of it for him so he won't gripe about it. And give me an Old Town White Large coffee, I think he's had that the most, he can't seem to get enough of it."
Petra laughed, finishing boxing up the coffee cake and going over to make the drink. She expertly put it together, adding a dash of cinnamon and a splash of dark chocolate, knowing the woman that had been ordering this particular drink along with her personal order and she always returned with the order of making sure Petra made it exactly the same as last time.
Petra turned and handing the steaming cup over to the man after putting a lid on it as well as the box of coffee cake.
"That'll be a total of 22.45."
The man didn't even bat an eye and handed over a heavy credit card. Petra ran the man's card and handed it back to him along with his reciept. "Here you go and you have a good night, sir."
"And you as well miss, thank you very much."
And the man was gone. Petra looked at the clock and saw that it was closing time so she went and shut the door, locking it and turning the 'open' light off before beginning to clean the place up before moving onto the machines and display case.
It took her over an hour to finish closing the place down and then she headed up the stairs and into her living room, collapsing onto her couch with a sigh.
Petra began to get the feeling that she was being watched so turned her head slightly towards the window and saw, thanks to her enhanced vision, a man crouched on the edge of a roof a couple buildings away and looking right at her.
Even from where she sat she could see the man's cloak and the slightly pointed ears.
It was Batman.
