The lights of the skyscrapers mingled with the stars. The last rays of sunlight beginning to set behind the vast ocean that stretched out before Republic City. Amongst the crowd, without his mask, he was a ghost. Amon enjoyed his walks within the twilight, watching the people, taking pride in the fact his actions were bringing them closer to a better life. It was funny though, how the city seemed almost beautiful in it's current state. Yet, one look at some of the people and he was reminded of the poverty and corruption that was rotting the it from the inside out.

Lately he had taken to stalking his prey, the Avatar. She, who wore no mask, whose motives and personality could all be seen with a glance, was his complete opposite. She walked with her friends, the other members of the Fire Ferrets, Mako and Bolin. They were talking, Korra and Bolin laughing and joking while Mako occasionally indulging himself with the faintest of smiles. It was so insultingly easy to figure out there greatest weakness. Separate them, hurt them, watch as the other squirms, looses their self control, and when they are at their most distraught, end it.

Mako and Bolin said their goodbyes, and soon she began walking alone. Her mistake, his chance. He took a turn into an alley, knocking over a few trashcans. Silently he climbed the building, and watched her walk head first into the trap.

"Hello? Is anybody there?" she called out. He grinned triumphantly. One well placed strike and her life would be extinguished. The light would fade from her eyes, her wreckless smile lost forever, her life cut pointlessly short. How would the world remember her? A failure as an Avatar? He could hide her body, and make it seem that she abandoned them. After being deserted by their best friend, why even the two brothers, with the right words, could be swayed to his side and forgo Bending.

Yet, he faltered.

"Hello, somebody?" He remained deathly still in the dark, grin faded from his face. Her cool blue eyes surveyed the area, he wondered: where would be the fun be in ending it so quickly? He would never see her fear. He would never have the true honor of saying he defeated the Avatar head on. Mostly, it seemed wrong to end her after such a short time in such a disgustedly beautiful city, that seemed just so, radiant, in the moonlight. It would be such a waste to see her die without seeing all the sights.

"Whatever," she mumbled turning from the alley and continuing her journey back to Air Bender Island. He smiled, jumping to the ground, and continued to stalk his prey once more. She was oblivious, carefree, that would all change very soon. Soon, he would defeat her. Soon, he would root fear so deeply into her soul that thousands of Avatars to come would shudder at his name. For now, he was simply content with watching, and waiting.
