Disclaimer: I own anything you don't recognize. Everything else is the wonderful creation of JK Rowling. It's a bit short, but it's a start. And James being a keeper, that's a personal preference.
A Possible Change
"And now walking down the aisle is the beautiful redhead, Ms. Head Girl, Lily Evans! I'd say she is quite slender at a height of 5'4, approximately 120 pounds, and currently claimed by Head Boy, James Potter!" announced Sirius Black to a group of male third years eagerly hoping to gain the looks and reputation of their mentor.
"You're
an inch and several pounds off. What do you want today, Black?"
Lily coolly replied. She sat down at her favorite armchair next to
the fire in the Gryffindor common room and pulled out her
transfiguration assignment. It was the first day and Professor
McGonagall had assigned two parchments on the importance of wand
motion earlier that morning when Samuel Finnegan accidentally
transformed his hat into a gorilla using the wrong flicking motion.
"Ah, I, Lily, do not want anything from you, but I know
of a certain Potter who would simply adore your company,"
Sirius responded as he stood up. A few of the third years began to
take notes. "But, I doubt that matters to you. Anyways, I must be
on my way. Mischief calls." Sirius strolled haughtily out of the
common room.
James Potter. The famous James Potter, keeper of the Gryffindor Quidditch Team. Lily could feel the disgust build at the mention of his name. Ever since their second year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, James had been after Lily. He not only asked her out consistently, but he also claimed her as to let other boys know she was off limits. This was the reason Lily never had a boyfriend or even a simple date during her past years of Hogwarts. James constantly sent her gifts, opened her doors, and offered her assistance. It was not that Lily hated the compliments or the lovely gifts, she just simply enjoyed being independent. She grew up with no assistance from her sibling, Petunia, and her parents, being muggles, were unable to help her with magic.
Not only did James treat her like a goddess, but he also treated the younger years like dirt. Of course he had those few third or fourth years that looked up to him and came to his every need, but he continuously pulled pranks on the others. Lily could not believe Dumbledore had chosen Potter to be Head Boy. He and his three best friends, Black, Lupin, and Pettigrew were always causing some sort of trouble, yet they always seemed to be at ease in classes and with most teachers. Except for Petter Pettigrew that is. He was in a way the oddball of the four.
With her mind wandering from the Transfiguration assignment, Lily decided to call it a night. As she packed up her materials, she heard a familiar voice behind her.
"Lily! Ms. Beautiful. The lovely dame of Gryffindor. My lovely girl to be exact. How are you this fine evening? Care to take a stroll around the grounds?" It was James. He talked with great confidence and placed his arm around Lily.
"Sorry Potter, but having to walk the grounds in two hours with you for duties is quite enough. And once again, I am not your girl," Lily replied sternly as she slipped out of his grasp, but she just could not help but feel a pang in her heart as she noticed the true hurt in his eyes at her rejection.
"Ah, well that is alright. I will see you soon," replied James. He walked away.
That was the first time James had taken her rejection without another proposal. Was it possible that James was actually troubled and hurt by her reply? Lily even thought her answer was a bit soft compared to her normal remarks. She didn't want to dwell on it. Lily left to the Head Girl's room and decided on a nice bath before her nightly duty with Potter.
