Notes: Well, not my best work, but I was bored and wanted to write. And it's my first time writing about Professor Elm.

It is spring in New Bark Town. As usual, love is in the air.

Two young trainers walk up to the laboratory in which Professor Elm resides. They come to collect their Pokemon, and Professor Elm shows them the available ones. The girl takes a Diglett while the guy picks a Magnemite. They walk off, talking and laughing.

Professor Elm walks into his backyard. He sees his Furret playing together, both of them rolling in the ground as they play, ignoring the presence of the professor completely, even as he put down their food. One Furret affectionately grooms the other as the professor watches.

He sighs and goes out into the front yard. The sky is painted orange as sunset takes over, and the professor looks out at the setting sun as a pair of Beautifly fly past the remaining strands of sunlight, twin dots against the huge orb of fire.

The sun finally sets, and Professor Elm sits on the front porch of his laboratory, sitting down and sipping from his cup of tea. He catches a glimpse of one of his aides giggling and laughing with a female voice in a nearby bush, and he turns away to find himself seeing a Volbeat and an Illumise in their courtship dance.

Volbeat flies high in the night sky, his tail glowing like a lone star in the darkness of night. He spirals up in the air, drawing pictures with his glowing tail end. Illumise similarly flies up with him, spiraling around as her tiny wings flap to keep her airborne. The Pokemon enter an intricate dance, weaving and flying to the moon.

Professor Elm sighs, breathing in the sweet aroma of love from the two Oddish beside the forest and inhaling the crisp spring air that carried so much of the magic for lovers.

Love was indeed in the air…

…but none was for him.

The professor takes another sip of tea as he closes his eyes and falls asleep, the fresh spring air billowing down on him like a blanket.
