Dr. Doofenshmirtz lay dying on the cold, hard cement floor of his evil tower. Perry the Platypus stared at him, mouth agape. This was his fault. When he hit the self-destruct button, he thought that Doofenshmirtz would get away in time. He always did. But not this time.
Perry the Platypus slowly approached the dying man. He never even had a chance to tell Dr. Doofenshmirtz that...he loved him. Perry stepped over Doofenshmirtz's detached leg. It had been blown off during the explosion. Tears welled up in Perry's eyes. He made his way, slowly, to the doctor's side. He placed a single hand on Doofenshmirtz's shoulder.
Doofenshmirtz's eyes slowly opened. Blood poured from his stump leg, soaking Perry's small, webbed feet.
"Chrchrchrchrchrchr," Perry chattered.
"It's okay, Perry," Doofenshmirtz soothed. "We both knew one of us would be killed, sooner or later."
"Chrchrchrchrchrchr."
"Don't worry. Don't blame yourself."
"Chrchrchrchrchrchr."
"You..." Doofenshmirtz coughed. Blood poured from his mouth. Perry could feel his life slipping away, like sand in an hourglass. "You...want to tell me something?" Doofenshmirtz finally finished.
Perry nodded solemnly. He took a deep breath, and more tears fell into the puddles of blood on the ground beneath him. He'd have to tell him how he felt fast, or it would be too late.
"Chrchrchrchrchrchr," Perry finally said.
Dr. Doofenshmirtz coughed in surprise. "Why...didn't you tell me?" He choked out.
"Chrchrchrchrchrchr."
"You shouldn't have been scared," Doofenshmirtz told Perry. "Because—" He paused to cough up a single lung. "Because I love you too," he wheezed.
"Chrchrchrchrchrchr!" Perry cried out.
Perry stretched out his hand to hold Doofenshmirtz's. Their fingers intertwined, and they locked eyes. Doofenshmirtz smiled. "Thank...you," he said with his final breath. Perry went to press his forehead against Doofenshmirtz's, but his beak bounced off of the doctor's long, pointy nose. This was Perry's breaking point.
He fell to the ground beside his dead love. Blood seeped into his fur, but he didn't care. He would stay there for the rest of his days. Life didn't matter to him anymore. He died of dehydration a week later. Without Doofenshmirtz, there was nothing left for Perry the Platypus.
