Chapter One: The Beginning of the End

"How much time is left, sir?" Kitame, one of the guards of Akuradame, approached the mayor in an abrupt way. The guard appeared emotionally distressed, as the rumors of evil was stirred among them. The mayor was an old man in his seventies that has served Akuradame faithfully for more than forty years. "Kitame, alert the villagers. They will be here in an hour. Check every house, and then report back to me." The old man gave Kitame an order, and turned to his son Caius, who waited patiently beside him. "Caius, help the guards escort the villagers to the safe grounds." Caius nodded. "I will." The study warrior ran out of the sanctuary, and led the villagers south of town, to gather them all and to make sure no one was left behind. The old man took a deep breath and sighed, looking towards a statue of Kati, a woman who is widely known in their religion.

"Blessed one, please protect our people from the evils upon our land." The mayor waited in the sanctuary and recited prayers of protection.

"Uak…" One villager was hacking up blood. He was struck by a race that ravages the lands, known to many as 'Obscuraid'. "They are here! Run!!" The crowd of villagers that saw the attack screamed and panicked. Smaller children and pets were trampled by fear and those that were abandoned were food for the Obscurites, which is widely known as younger forms of Obscuraid. "H-How did they find us so quickly?" Many people were thinking the question over in their minds. Men and women were dying all around. The demons trailed after the shrinking group of villagers, taking them down by the dozen. The guards tried to fend them off, but were easily overpowered.

"Kitame, what is your status out there?" The mayor asked through the wireless headphones. No response was received from Kitame. The man switched channels and tried to communicate to Caius. "Are you there Caius…?" Growling could be heard in the background of Caius's channel. "Dammit… has everyone succumbed to the Obscuraid?"

The mayor paced back and forth in the sanctuary, wondering what to do. If he went out there, he would surely die. Holy fields are the only known safe points away from the darkness.

"If this sanctuary has been built bigger, we could have saved our people." A creature with an atrocious appearance and menacing grin materialized behind the mayor. It reeked of death and lusted of blood. The mayor quickly turned around and backed away in terror. "I've come for you mayor. Your time… has passed." The mayor fell to the floor, crawling away from the monster. "Please! I beg of you! Don't hurt me! Take whatever you want!" A sword could be heard piercing through flesh.
