This isn't my first story but it's probably the only one i'll take serious and publish chapters on the most. I just hope anyone who finds my story will enjoy it as much as I do while i'm writing it. Just to let you know, I have a bit of a different writing style but it's still simple enough to read so not that big of a deal and this is written in a third person view, as I, the author would kind of narrate the whole thing. One more thing: this is my own individual story that takes place in the SSB universe so i'll use little elements or things in general from it and my own made up things i'll put in the plot to make the story itself and writing enjoyable for me and understandable for the readers.
It was pouring out. Three young boys were running from school to the nearest building for shelter from the rain. One of the three boys, Marx, stopped to admire the golden statue of his hometowns hero Cyber. Marx really looks up to him and strives to be as strong a fighter as he was. Marx forgot that he was under the rain until one of his friends, Ricky called for him.
Ricky: "Marx, c'mon! We gotta go!"
Marx: "OH! Right-!"
Marx and Ricky caught up with their other friend Benson and the three found shelter at a local corner store.
Benson: "Marx, why do you always have to stop and look at the Cyber statue? Are you that obsessed with it?"
Marx: "No... I just really admire what that guy did."
Ricky: "Are you trying to be him or something?"
Marx: "Oh no. I'm trying to be BETTER than he ever was!"
Benson: "That's quite a goal in mind you have."
Ricky: "We've known Marx for a while now, I think he can do it."
Benson: "*chuckle* Yeah, I guess so."
Time passed by and the rain finally stopped, so the three boys ran their way home. When Marx finally made it home, he found the door unlocked, meaning his mother, Anne would know he would arrive home late.
Marx: "It's almost 8:00. Damn it! I missed dinner again! What am I gonna her this time?!"
Marx slowly entered the house as he was greeted by Anne and his sister Alyssa.
Alyssa: "Hello, Marx."
Anne: "Breaking curfew again, are we son?"
Marx: "Uh, about that... Yeah, I dunno what to say this time."
Anne: "Mhmm."
Alyssa: "You need to stop staying back and playing with Ricky and Benson. Just because they don't have as much responsibilities as you do doesn't mean you can goof off a lot."
Marx: "Yeah, yeah. I promise it won't happen again."
Anne: "Glad you promised."
Marx is known for keeping his promises a lot with his family. Marx had finished eating dinner when he had seen his father, Will walk in the kitchen. Will doesn't like Marx to put it simple. But Marx still has respect for him even after all the back talking and disrespect Will fires towards Marx.
It's because Marx was adopted a few years back and Will disagreed with it but Anne really wanted to take him in because she felt like he deserved a chance and didn't want him to be stuck with his previous life staying in a bunker in the northern forest. Marx quickly finished his food and walked right past Will, as usual they say nothing to each other.
Marx: "Well, time for bed! Tomorrows a big day!"
Alyssa: "Yes it is!"
Marx: "GAH-! Don't scare me like that!"
Alyssa: "Oops."
The next morning came by quick and Marx and Alyssa got ready and headed out to school with Ricky and Benson.
Benson: "YES! I can't wait to start our year end project Marx!"
Marx: "Uh, yeah..."
Ricky: "No one's as enthusiastic as you are Benson."
Benson: "Tough for you guys, but i'll make sure you all do your parts."
Marx: "Oh yeah! Hahaha!"
Benson: "*sigh*"
Alyssa: "I heard it's gonna be different this year for our class."
Marx: "What're you talking about?"
Alyssa: "I just heard our teacher will be choosing our partners this year instead of us."
Benson: "That's crazy! I don't wanna work with someone I don't know! I really wanted it like last with me working with Marx and Ricky with Alyssa!"
Ricky: "Let's just see what happens when we get there."
The kids made it to their school and they arrived to class just in time. Everyone took their seats and waited while their teacher, Mrs. Hills took attendance. She was calling each students name one by one, until Alyssa's name was called, then Ricky, Benson and finally Marx' name.
Mrs. Hills: "And SHE'S tardy again. Have to mark her absent."
Ricky: "Why is that girl never here. And if she is, she comes so late, like an hour into class."
Random boy: "Yeah, she's so weird."
Random girl: "Maybe she's planning on dropping out or something."
Alyssa: "I don't like the way everyone picks on her like that Marx."
Marx: "Yeah same. But it can't hurt to wonder why she's kinda tardy."
Alyssa: "Don't be like that either! You never know she could be going through some things."
Marx: "Oh, true. I didn't realize that."
Just as Marx finished, the door slowly slid open and a girl with short brown hair and bright red cheeks enters the room.
Benson: "It's her. Mayo."
Mrs. Hills: "And just after I finished the attendance too. It''s OK Mayo. Take your seat."
Mayo: "...OK."
Mayo walks to her seat, being one level across from Marx. Marx admires her for a moment because she smelled good.
Mrs. Hills: "OK class. Things are going to be different for the year end project. I will be choosing your partners this time!"
The class was outraged.
Mrs. Hills: "Now, now! Settle down. I know it's sudden but this is better for you all."
Mrs. Hills announced everyone to each other except for Marx.
Mrs Hills: "Marx! You already know your partner. The other last student is Mayo! Hope you'll both enjoy working with each other."
Marx: "Mayo!?"
The class laughed at Marx. Everyone thought it was funny that he was the unlucky chap paired with the class weirdo.
Random boy: "Tough luck, Marx!"
Ricky: "I don't know if I should feel sorry or bad or anything for you, bro."
Marx: "Why would you? It's not like i'm paired with anyone bad."
Mayo looked back at Marx and Alyssa smiled. Mrs. Hills called Marx to her office to speak to him.
Mrs. Hills: "Marx. How do you feel about being paired with Mayo?"
Marx: "I don't know yet. I don't even know her so I can't say."
Mrs. Hill's liked Marx' answer.
Mrs. Hills: "OK. I'll try and get you to know her right now."
Marx: "Whaddya mean?"
Mrs. Hills: "Well, to put it simple... Mayo has had a hard life so far. We don't know much about her father except that he left her and her mother a week after she was born. And at 7 years old, Mayo found her mother hung herself in her room. She sat there and didn't say anything but cry until her neighbor finally her cries. She was later then taken to an orphanage and was adopted by her grandmother."
Marx was quiet. He couldn't believe what he just heard and took in. He started to look and think differently about Mayo now.
Marx: "Uh... I never knew."
Mrs. Hills: "And no other student knows about it either. Only us staff. But promise me Marx that you'll keep what you just heard under wraps. If the other kids know, they'll make life harder for Mayo by picking on her and taunting her."
Marx: "Of course not! I wouldn't want that either."
Mrs. Hills: "Marx, I specifically chose you as her partner because I know you and your a great and open person. and willing to do anything. Even maybe be Mayo's friend?"
Marx: "You don't have to ask! I can be her friend no problem."
Mrs. Hills: "Wonderful! And just make sure to take things nice and slow with her. She's not as open as you all are."
Marx left her office and went back to class and seen that Alyssa, Ricky and Benson already left. It was just him and Mayo in the classroom.
Marx: "Wow, so much for waiting you guys... Oh, Mayo."
Mayo looked back.
Marx: "Hey! I'm Marx, happy to be working with you!"
Mayo didn't reply.
Marx: "Uh... So, when do you wanna start?"
Mayo: "Why did the teacher call you to her office?"
Marx: "Uh-Oh. That. Umm..."
Mayo: "..."
Marx knew he couldn't tell her what he was told. But he didn't want to make it seem like he was lying either but he had to lie anyways to keep his word.
Marx: "I wanted to ask her about you. Just to get to know you better. So it's not awkward and we'll have a good time together, y'know?"
Mayo blushed. Marx quickly caught what he said was also flustered.
Mayo: "Why didn't you just come to me?"
Marx: "Uh... I didn't think... NEVER MIND! I already know about you and you obviously know me, so were good."
Mayo: "OK."
It was quiet for a bit. And awkward. Marx hates awkwardness so he tried hard to think of stuff to say.
Marx: "Umm... I'm having a year end get together with all my friends. Wanna come by?"
Mayo: "I don't know. I wouldn't be wanted there."
Marx: "Naw, don't say that. Now your definitely coming!"
Mayo: "Uh, I have to ask my grandma first then."
Marx: "That's OK. I'll come with you."
Mayo: "Oh, OK."
Marx walked Mayo out the school and to her house. As they were walking, Marx was admiring Mayo. He never noticed how cute she was. Marx blushed to himself and kept walking until they arrived to her house.
Mayo: "We're here."
Mayo knocked on the door and her grandmother opened it and was shocked to see someone with her home.
Mayo's grandma: "Mayo, you should've told me you were bringing a friend over!"
Marx: "No ma'am. I'm just here to get permission to allow Mayo to come to my year end party with my friends at my house in 2 days."
Mayo's grandma: "OF COURSE! I't's been a while since Mayo ever wanted to go out with her friends."
Marx: "I kinda had to force her to come!"
Her grandma laughed with relief and joy. Marx could sense it. Marx smiled back began to walk home.
Marx: "Hey Mayo, how about I pick you up tomorrow morning and we can get started on our project?"
Mayo: "Yeah, OK."
As Marx was running home, he began to think about the things he was told about Mayo and her past. That was when he was determined to be a real friend and always be there for Mayo. He felt like it was his mission.
Marx: "I'M HOME!"
Anne: "Just in time for dinner too. Why didn't you walk home with your sister?"
Marx: "I stayed back to get to know my new partner, Mayo."
Anne: "Awe. And Alyssa here was telling everything about it too. Do your best with her Marx. Be there for her."
Marx: "You got it! And I also invited her over here for the party. I got her grandmas permission too."
Alyssa: "Marx! That's so awesome! I'm glad you were chosen as her partner!"
Marx in thought: "Me too."
Will: Great. More kids in the house. *sigh*"
Anne: "Oh you hush! It'll be a fun time. Besides, we know Ricky and Benson well enough for it to be normal of them coming over. And Marx will deal with Mayo."
Will: "Hmph."
Marx: "It'll be so fun! I can't wait."
Will: "So this kid's bringing his new girlfriend over? At least Alyssa follows the rules. She don't got no boyfriend yet."
Anne: "WILL!"
Marx: "That's funny... I remember having a name, and i'm still following the rules. I don't got a girl yet."
Will: "And at the end of the day, you got no place here either."
Marx: "What-!?"
Anne: "OK-! That's enough out of you William!"
Will took himself upstairs to bed. Marx and Alyssa later followed.
Marx: "I honestly don't understand what I ever did to that guy."
Alyssa: "Neither of us do. My dad tends to be like that for no reason."
Marx: "That's so stupid."
Alyssa: "I know. I'm sorry Marx."
It's all good! I personally don't care. It is what it is."
Alyssa: "Yea."
The next morning came by, and Marx had left a little early to go pick up Mayo. Marx arrived and knocked her door. Mayo quickly answers.
Marx: "Hey! Good morning Mayo!"
Mayo: "Good morning Marx."
The two walked to school and seen Ricky, Alyssa and Benson.
Benson: "Well, well. Look here."
Alyssa: "Awe. Aren't you two adorable!"
Marx: "Sheesh! Cut it out guys."
Ricky: "Do you guys know what you're doing yet?"
Marx: "Yup! And it's gonna be great, right Mayo?"
Mayo: "Mhmm."
They got to school and went to class and as they entered, everyone was staring at Marx and Mayo.
Random boy: "Wow, look it! Mayo's on time."
Random girl: "Only because Marx probably dragged her out of bed."
The class began to laugh. Marx shook his head and took his seat and so did Mayo. As Marx sat down, a girl with long brown hair, Hilary began to page Marx for the mess inside his desk out loud.
Hilary: "Still being tardy, I see Marx. You never learn, do you?"
Marx: "Get off my case Hilary, i'm having a good morning so don't try and ruin it alright?"
Random boy: "Good morning? Is it because you walked with Mayo to school?"
Marx: "YES."
Random boy: "Oh..."
The boy tried mocking Marx but it didn't work.
Hilary: "Imagine being as tardy as Marx... I don't know what i'd do with myself."
Ricky: "Cut it out Hilary! No one needs your annoying annual sass."
Hilary: "And you need a haircut. All that red hair is going more places then you."
The class began laughing with Hilary.
Marx: "Don't listen to her Ricky. Your haircut is just fine."
Hilary: "Oh, i'm not done with you either Marx!"
Marx: "Please stop. I don't wanna continue to bare your bad breath!"
The class went from laughing with Hilary to Hilary for Marx' joke.
Hilary: "Hmph!"
The class began to settle down when Mrs. Hills walked in with two men in black suits.
Mrs. Hills: "Class, I want you all to meet our visitors, Mory and Phillip. They have an announcement to make to the class.
Phillip: " Hello, class. My name is Phillip and this is my brother Mory."
Marx: "I'm confused. What are guys even here for? We're all trying to do our year end project."
Phillip: "That can wait for now... But I have a question for you all. Have any of you heard of the Super Smash Bros Academy?"
The class was quiet and confused. They had no idea what Phillip asked them.
Benson: "OH! I know! It's a prestigious and elite fighting school far down north from here. The great and historical fighters came from that school and it's only for extremely talented fighters!"
Phillip was surprised.
Phillip: "That's right young boy. And why were here is because one or a few of you can get the chance to enter the school."
Marx: "A fighting school! That's awesome! It's my dream to be a strong fighter-no, the strongest!"
Mory: "Oh? I like that enthusiasm kid. Think you got what it takes?"
Marx: "Yeah!"
Mory: "Good. Because you are my pick to the exam!"
Marx: "Wait what-!?"
Phillip: "Huh-?"
Mory: "Marx, I choose you to take the practice exam!"
Marx: "Practice... Exam?"
Ricky: "Woah..."
Mayo: "Marx..."
Marx: "I don't know what this exam is to enter this school of yours... But sign me up!"
Mory: "Good. Come with us..."
