TOMMY VS. FRANCE
AUTHOR'S NOTE/DISCLAIMER
This is a HISB interlude that takes place after "A Very Ranger Christmas". Power Rangers belongs to Haim Saban and Nickelodeon. I only own the plot. I use a line from "The Green Candle Part 1" and a variation of a couple of lines from the Saved By The Bell episode "Model Students" which belongs to NBC and Peter Engels.
Tommy blew out a breath as he closed his locker and shifted his books in his hands. The end of the year was fast approaching and soon Kimberly would be joining her parents in France. What if being long distance makes her fall out of love with me? What if she meets somebody else? he wondered. Just then, the object of his thoughts came up, textbooks, a small brochure, and another book in her hands.
"Hey, whatcha got there?" Tommy asked.
"Brochure and book about France and the French language," Kimberly replied. "I figured if I'm moving, it'd probably be a good idea to get a jump start on the language. I mean, right now, the only thing I know how to say is 'S'il vous plait'," she continued.
"That makes sense," Tommy softly said with a smile that didn't reach his eyes.
"Is something wrong?" Kimberly asked in concern.
"No, it's nothing," Tommy assured. I can't let her know what I'm thinking. I don't want her to feel like I'm pressuring her to stay, he thought to himself.
"Tommy," Kimberly stated somewhat reproachfully.
"Don't worry about it," Tommy assured again and he started walking to his next class. However, Kimberly put her books under her arm and then grabbed Tommy's wrist and spun him around.
"Hey, you know you can tell me anything. We're best friends," she reminded. He sighed.
"Yeah, I know," he said.
"So, what's going on? You've been quiet for the last few days," she told him. He sighed again.
"Don't take this the wrong way, but a part of me doesn't want you to go to France," he admitted.
"What?" she asked. Why would he be afraid to say that? she wondered. He was probably worried about saying goodbye. She could certainly relate to that. It'd be hard.
"I-I mean, I know you'd be with your family, but-it's Paris. There'll be guys there-guys that a girl could be attracted to and-" he trailed off as his girlfriend stifled a laugh. That's what he was afraid of?
"You're afraid that I'd find someone else?" she asked.
"Hey, it could happen. How could I possibly compete with a French guy who knows how to be romantic and can sweep a girl off of her feet with just one word?" he wondered.
"Oh, please. No one would be able to hold a candle to you," she told him.
"But what if-" Kimberly cut off Tommy's question by putting a hand up in the air.
"You're my Green and White Knight. You've had my back, my trust, and my love for three years. There's no way any boy-even if he's French-could possibly compete with that," she told him. He smiled.
"Thanks for letting me have a guy moment."
"Any time." Then, she took his hand and leaned up expectantly. He tilted his head downward and their lips met.
THE END
