Axel walked down a brick street in Twilight Town, he was looking for Roxas. Where is that boy? I have to tell him… Axel thought in frustration. He looked around frantically. He stopped abruptly when he saw a head of unkempt blonde hair. He ran towards the boy.
"Roxas!" the red-headed man called. The boy turned around and his piercing blue eyes widened. Axel reached him and stood in front of the boy. "Finally, I've been looking for you for an hour! I need to tell you something." Axel told him.
"Axel…?" Roxas whispered. Axel? Who is this? How do I know his name, I don't know him! But…he seems familiar…somehow… Roxas thought. He wanted to pull away from this strange man, but for some reason he let himself be led away. After a while they stopped in front of a mansion. "What is this about? Do I know you?" Roxas blurted his eyes boring into the man's green ones.
Axel felt his heart beat faster as he stared into Roxas' deep pools of blue. They seemed to see right into his soul. He shifted uncomfortably. Well, I just wanted to tell you the truth…that you make me feel like I have a heart…that I love you, Roxas. Axel thought bitterly as Roxas stared at him expectantly. A few seconds passed and Axel came to the conclusion that he should tell Roxas the more important information.
So he launched into the story of how Roxas is a Nobody and once belonged to Organization XIII, and how they used to be friends.
"You're lying!" Roxas shouted once Axel finished. Axel glared sharply. "No…it can't be…but I have emotions! I love my friends! How can I be a-a Nobody?" He shouted. Axel smiled gently and shrugged. "And you say that this Sora…that name seems familiar…you're saying that he will eventually come and I will become…one with him? Like, he's my other half, or something?" Roxas asked. Axel nodded. Roxas nodded back. "Okay then." Axel was surprised at how easily Roxas was accepting this information.
A week passed and Axel visited Roxas everyday, telling him about his time with Organization XIII. Every one of those days, Axel yearned to tell Roxas of his feelings. Soon a month had passed and Axel couldn't keep his feelings inside, no matter how puzzling they were.
"Roxas…" he began.
"What?" Roxas asked.
"I just wanted to say that even though I am a Nobody and therefore do not have a heart nor feelings, you make me feel like I have that which I lack. You make me feel like I have a heart, that I can feel love. I love you. When I am with you it feels as if you enter my soul, if I had one, that is." Axel said this all very fast and Roxas just sat there, staring at the Nobody in front of him.
Suddenly, Roxas reached out and held Axel. Axel dug his fingers into Roxas' back and he hugged back twice as hard. Roxas rocked back and forth.
"Axel, I love you too. I don't understand how this Nobody thing works…how can we not have emotions. Feeling is sometimes the only thing keeping people alive." Roxas said. He lifted Axel's chin and kissed him. Axel savored the warm feeling of Roxas' lips as he kissed back. They broke apart after a bit.
"I want emotion. I want to love you for real." Axel whispered.
"This is real, Axel."
