Apparently this one's a keeper
The moon shone bright upon the trees as they passed. Dark shadows moving together through the forest. The path lay covered with the leaves of autumn and crunched under foot. The crisp breeze sang its song as it passed between them. The man's robes were darker than the night and his hair was darker still. His face was in stark contrast to his outfit as it shone like the stars in the night sky. Her robe of black velvet made soft sounds as it glided over the leaf litter upon the ground. Her dark brown hair framed her oval face and reflected the moonlight off her bright eyes.
Hand in hand they walked amongst the ancient trees, never fearing for the dark creatures that passed them by. For they were both powerful in their magic and their love. Their path took them past the music of a bubbling brook and they paused for a time to listen to its melody. It was while they pondered its sound the man spoke.
"You look lovely this night, my dear," he said. He stroked her hair behind her ear and she smiled at him. He lived for that smile. Simply thinking of it brought warm feelings to his heart. She squeezed his hand tighter and looked deep into his eyes. She didn't say anything but her eyes spoke every word that she would ever need to say, I love you. At length he pulled his eyes away to gaze out on the stream. He didn't want to look away but if he did not he would find himself beaming like a fool before long.
The crickets soon joined in with the forest's song and the chill breeze began to whistle in the branches. He closed his eyes and let the music pass over him. He thought about the night and the woman standing next to him. He could feel the love he had for her welling in his chest and he squeezed her hand in kind. She began to hum a tune. He did not recognize it but it beheld a melody that soon took hold of him. He knew that he would never forget it as long as he lived.
"My love, I fear this night is ebbing on and so must we," said she. He opened his eyes to find the moon behind him. Had they been standing there for so long?
"My deepest apologies, my dear, I had not realized it was getting so late," he said. Putting his arm around her shoulders they started along the path again.
"I did not wish to disturb you," she confessed, "You looked as though you were somewhere wonderful." She snuggled closer to him and put her arm around his waist.
"I was," he sighed, "I was thinking about the night I met you. I remember thinking that you and the music the orchestra was playing that night matched each other perfectly." She sighed contentedly and rested her head on his shoulder.
Together they walked in silence back to the grand castle on the hill. Back to its warm hearths, good food and all the comforts of home. Round and round their path wound up toward the great iron-bound doors that marked the entrance to a grand courtyard of polished stone. Here the song of the forest was dimly heard and only the wind whistled them on their way. Inside were hallways with a multitude of stone statues and here and there a suit of old armor. He walked her to her room before departing for his quarters in the dungeons.
"I had a pleasant evening with you," he said.
"Perhaps this can be a regular occurrence?" she asked.
"I would like that very much," said he. He took her hand in his and laid the softest of kisses upon it before saying goodbye.
