Summary: Robin points out that it was meant to be his brother's night. Missing scene from the final episode of season 6.
"We probably shouldn't have done this tonight. This is your brother's night..."
From the look in Robin's eyes, Don knew that she was serious. And yeah, she was probably right, but it had felt right to him to propose now. He'd been carrying the ring around with him, when he wasn't at work, for two weeks, not sure when the appropriate time would be.
"I can take the ring back, if you want," Don said with a shrug, biting back a grin. He expected the incredulous look from Robin that he got in reply.
"You are not taking this ring off my finger, Don Eppes. We'll just have to hold off telling people until later."
"And if they see the ring?"
Robin looked down at her hand again, angling it from side to side. "They won't, because you'll hold my hand for the rest of the night." She lifted her gaze back up to his face; smiling, happy. "We'll tell your family after everyone else leaves, and then call mine to let them know."
He couldn't resist teasing her. "What if I don't want to hold your hand for the rest of the night?"
She mock-punched him on the shoulder and he held up his hands, surrendering, unable to keep the laughter out of his voice. "Okay, okay! I'll hold your hand for the rest of the night."
"You better believe it," Robin said, before leaning in to kiss him again.
It may have been completely unromantic, but he couldn't help the thought that flashed through his head: she was doomed to catch his cold. And odds on she'd pass it back to him. Putting the thought out of his head, he concentrated on the moment.
He was in love and engaged. He was happy. That was all that mattered.
