this is so cheesy, idek

"I really hate autumn!"

Training had lasted longer than expected that day. By the time they had put everything neatly away the sky had already started darkening, a chilly wind rising up to greet them as they left the school's gates behind their backs.

Bundled up in their light jackets the two boys decided to take the shortcut to the station, cutting through the big park nearby.

"Why?"

"'cause it gets cold!" Kise knew he was pouting and that probably Kasamatsu soon would yell at him for being too childish, but he really couldn't help it. Everything about this season made him feel grumpy and depressed. "It rains and everything starts looking lonely and dead. There's nothing pretty in it!" And before you realize it, the school year is over and it's time for people to graduate.

He kept the last part to himself, not really wanting to talk about it. Voicing his thoughts would only make it sound more real, definitive. Still, whether he talked about it or not, there was nothing he could do to change it. Come next year, senpai would graduate and they wouldn't get to spend time like this ever again. No more walking home together, no more stopping somewhere to eat, no more dragging him to festivals and shops after a long day spent training.

Suddenly Kasamatsu's voice cut through the sullen thoughts twirling through his head. "I kinda like it though."

"Why?" He was genuinely curious. What was there to like about it.

Kasamatsu stopped a moment to crouch down and pick up something. Then, standing back up, he held it out in front of him.

"Look!" In the palm of his hand he had a pretty ginkgo leaf, its color already changed to a brilliant golden-yellow. "It's your color!" He smiled.

Then, as realization of what he had just done hit him, he lowered his hand and started walking away briskly.

Left behind, Kise could see his neck and ears already turning beet red.

He lightly chased after him, the leaves rustling under his steps, till they were walking again side by side. Kise couldn't hide the amusement from his voice when he asked "Is it because it has my color? Is that why senpai likes autumn?"

"Shut up!" Came the gruff reply, he still wouldn't look at him.

Making sure nobody was walking by, Kise grabbed Kasamatsu and dragged him between the trees, out of sight from the path.

As he pressed their lips together beneath the Ginkgo trees, a rain of yellow leaves gently falling around them, Kise decided he could start liking autumn too.
