They sit alone together, watching as other pairings dance by their hiding spot out in the open. If anybody had cared to look for them, they would have found them easily, but all the other mutants, both teacher and student, have others on their minds tonight. They watch as their headmaster dances surprisingly well with his girlfriend to the music. Their attention stays on them until Jean asks quietly, "Do you think we ever danced like that?"

Blushing, Scott pushes his glasses further up on his nose. "We were married," he looks at her, "so yeah, I think we did."

"Do you think we liked it?"

"I know I would have."

His shy voice is so quiet that she has to lean closer to hear him. "I think I would have, too." They sit in silence for a while, their gaze returning to Logan and Ororo's dance, before she speaks again. "There's a lot older you did that you wouldn't have done and a lot older you regrets."

"I don't think our marriage is one of them." Their eyes meet. The music quiets, then starts again. Scott summons all his courage to ask, "Would you like to dance?"

She beams. "I'd love to!"

The world around them fades as they dance, and for a moment, they manage to forget where, when, and why they are. Scott is either a surprisingly adept dancer or Jean is too absorbed in his smile to realize he steps on her toes. A buzz of excited thoughts causes her to look around them; the others are now watching them. She blushes while confiding, "They expect us to fall in love."

"Let them," Scott replies and turns her around again while never once admitting he already has. They don't care that the music stops; they just continue to dance.
