Hello everyone! For those of you who already know me, it's good to see you again, and for those who don't, it's nice to meet you. Since TGATC (previous KH story) pretty much ended, I haven't wrote any KH fics, so I decided I wanted to write a new one. This story is set in a world with no darkness, with Sora living a normal life. To put it simply, it's a modern day story. Also, I've decided to call Sora 'Sora Yami' in this fic in contrast to 'Sora Hikari' in my previous one. There isn't any meaning behind this name though; I just did it on a whim. Anyway, rant over. Enjoy!

The Sky and the Nobody

Ever since that day, on the third day of summer, he'd been entranced by her. Her simplistic beauty, her shy expressions, her drawings she would spend hours on at a time.

Day One of Summer Vacation

Sora Yami, our 16 year old protagonist of sorts looked up and sighed.

"You'd think that I would be excited it's summer, but I just can't get into the 'summer mood'. Does that make me weird?" He turned to his best friend, Riku Soul, a confused look present on his face.

"Yes."

Sora was drew back. "Do you ever stop being so blunt with everyone? You wound me sir!" He whined, pretending to be offended. Riku smirked. This pretty much summed up their friendship, Sora the joker and Riku the level headed one. Although they were complete opposites, they were still best friends.

Sora stood up from his sofa and stretched. He gestured toward the door. "Staying indoors all day isn't gonna do us any good. I hear there's a festival tonight to celebrate the first day of summer, and we're going." He explained proudly. Riku groaned.

"Don't I get a say in this?"

"No."

"But I-"

"No"

"But-"

Riku wasn't able to continue due to Sora grabbing his arm and dragging his reluctant freind outside. It was around 9PM, and the sun was only finally beginning to set on Destiny town - Sora and Riku's home since they were young. It was the first of 14 days of summer vacation, and Sora was just glad to be out of Island High School.

While walking to the festival, Sora turned to Riku, wide-eyed. "Do you think there'll be candy apples, or fireworks, or a Ferris wheel, or-" Sora continued to ramble on about his fantasies while Riku went to his 'happy place' inside his head. His 'happy place' consisted of a bed with him sleeping on it, with no one to bother him. Oh how he longed for silence.

"Hey, we're here." Riku interrupted, making Sora be quiet for a few seconds. Riku cherished those seconds. The summer festival had lines and lines of concession stands with all kinds of sweets and exotic looking foods. Sora immediately became serious, and his face grew dark.

"Riku," He whispered. "I am now embarking on a journey. It will be long and hard - that's what she said, and I don't know if I'll make it back alive, but... I swear to you...I will find my candy apples!" He screamed, dashing over to each stand in hopes of locating his treasure.

Riku sighed again.

Strolling through the bustling festival, Riku's attention was drawn to a stand where you scoop goldfish, and if you win you keep them. After a few minutes, Riku won one, and held the bag up to his eyes. "You are my fish. I shall name you Steve." Riku, satisfied got up to leave, but bumped into a girl standing behind him.

Everything went in slow motion. Riku stumbled. The bag flew out of his hands. Riku dove for the bag, but it was too late. The bag exploded. It was over as soon as it had begun. Riku slumped down.

"N-no...no..." He murmured. Riku turned to Steve's assassin, determined to get revenge. His eyes were met with a girl slightly shorter than him, (though everyone was shorter than Riku, that guy is like a mountain) with blonde spikey hair, and bright blue eyes.

Riku narrowed his eyes at the girl, who seemed surprised.

"I'm so sorry, I really didn't mean to -" She spoke innocently. "- kill your stupid fish." She finished with an evil smile.

Sparks flew.

Meanwhile, Sora was beginning to give up his quest for his candied apples, and slouched down on a nearby bench.

"Sigh..." He moaned to no one in particular. "I wonder where Riku went off to? That guy's always wondering off." Sora mused. Suddenly, a Sora heard shouting coming from nearby, and went to investigate.

Larxene laughed cruely. "Aww, did I make the wittle man sad?" She taunted, angering Riku.

"How can you be joking around when you murdered Steve?" He growled. Sora had only seen Riku like this that one time he looked on Riku's search history for a joke. He still has the nightmares, but his therapist says he'll be all better soon.

"Aaaaaaand, the nightmares are back." Sora sighed. He walked over to Riku and dragged him by the collar. "C'mon Riku, it's time to go home. I know you'll be really disappointed, but there aren't any candy apples."

"Screw the candy apples, this girl killed Steve." Riku explained. Sora stopped, and faced the girl.

His eyes widened. "Y-you killed Steve? How could you? He was so young."

The girl tilted her head. "You don't even know who Steve is." Sora thought for a moment.

"Oh yeah that's right." He stated, and continued to drag Riku along.

The girl smirked at Riku, who retorted with a glare. There was no way Riku would forget about her anytime soon.

"Hey, what's your name?" Riku asked, as Sora dragged him further and further away. "You know, for voodoo doll purposes." The girl smirked.

"Larxene." Riku made a personal note to not forget her name. He had a feeling that they'd be meeting again soon.

Sora and Riku left the festival, both depressed for their own reasons. Sora sighed loudly.

"Well, the first day of summer officially sucked. Lucky for us we have 13 more of them. Tomorrow, let's go to Twilight town. I hear they have this stuff called 'sea salt ice cream'."

Riku looked confused. "That sounds awful. However, I heard that Twilight town has a few summer jobs perfect for bored teenagers like us."

Sora interjected.

"If we save up enough, we can go to the beach!" He exclaimed in excitement.

"Or, we could put the money in our bank accounts like respectable young adults so-"

"The beach!" Sora repeated.

"But we-"

"THE BEACH" He said, with an evil look on his face.

Riku was shocked. "Or, the beach…." He conceded.

The next day Sora and Riku set off for Twilight town, Sora practically bouncing up and down with excitement.

"I'm gonna spend all my munny on a surfboard!" Sora announced.

Riku turned. "You don't even surf."

Sora chuckled, "Yeah, but girls dig a guy with a surfboard!"

"One, how would you know anything about what girls like? And two, what will you do if they ask you to show them your surfing skills?"

"Details, details!" Sora laughed.

Riku facepalmed.

After a while of Sora trying to explain to Riku why attaching fireworks to yourself and setting them off is a good idea, the train to Twilight town came to a halt.

Sora ran out, squealing, with Riku in tow. Riku considered buying one of those leashes for children parents use so they don't get lost. The amount of times Sora's ran off is phenomenal.

Sora stopped running, and turned to talk to Riku, but he was gone.

"That guy...always wondering off." Sora grumbled.

Sora spent a while wondering around the unfamilliar town, taking in the sights. He came across an open area called the 'Sandlot'. He noticed three people striding over to him thretingally.

"The name's Seifer. This is my town, and I don't care for strangers. State your buisness loser."

Sora looked up at him "Well aren't you a ray of sunshine. I'm just here to buy a surfboard." He began to walk away, but Rai (an idiot who's even bigger than Riku) stopped him.

"Don't be bein' sarcamachastic to our leader, yo!"

Sora smirked at him. "And you must be the brains of the group." He said slyly. Rai, not understanding the obvious sarcasm, looked to Seifer for support.

Seifer glared at Sora. "No new kid comes here and disses us. Draw your weapon." He gestured to an odd looking bat near Sora's feet, while holding one of his own at Sora.

Sora was about to pick up the weapon when he heard a shout. "Sora!" Riku frantically ran over to him and picked him up. "I'm sorry if he caused you any trouble, you know how kids are these days". He laughed awkwardly, and sprinted off with Sora struggling out of his grip.

When they got far enough away from the sandlot, Riku relased Sora, and stood gasping for air. "Listen, Sora-" He began, regaining his composure and standing up. Sora was gone. Riku turned and banged his head on the wall while moaning: "Why?"

Sora wandered about the main streets, and his attention was drawn to a stand that sold "Sea salt ice cream". After bounding over to it and waiting in line for a while, he took out his wallet to pay, but gasped. "My munny pouch - where is it!?" Sora frantically searched all 20 pockets in his clothing, but came to the conclusion that he had dropped it.

A slender girl wearing a white summer dress giggled from behind Sora. She smiled up at him, finding his complete over-reaction to not only discovering sea-salt ice cream, but the irony of him having lost his wallet.

"Here, I'll get you one." She ordered two ice creams and handed one to Sora.

Sora looked solemnly at her. "I hope you know that now you've fed me, I'll follow you around forever." She giggled again, which made Sora grin.

They sat down at a bench and began talking, the girl laughing at Sora explaining how he got lost twice, lost his munny, and his scheme of trying to pick up girls with a surfboard.

"So there I was, three guys glaring at me, and this one guy - Seif-something wanted to fight me! And with me being the brave and gallant young man I am-" She giggled, encouraging him with a smile, "was dragged off by my friend Riku! But I could've totally taken him - probally. Maybe. Not. He had big muscles and looked scary." He laughed nervously.

"SORA." Riku, looking incredibly fatigued, grabbed Sora's arm, "It's getting late. Come on, lets go." Riku dragged Sora along making sure to have a tight grip lest he escape for the third time today.

"Huh? Wait - miss! I never heard your name! Mine's Sora!" She waved, grinning at the comical event unfolding.

"Namine."

Sora smiled back at her until he could no longer see her and turned to Riku. "About the train fee back...ehehehe...It's a funny story really - I kinda lost my munny and -"

"Here." Riku pushed a familliar pouch into Sora's hand.

Sora smiled again. "Thanks Riku."

So, how was the first chapter? I appreciate any reviews, and I always like to incorporate other's ideas into my stories, so if you have a suggestion and I like it, I'll add it in. Of course credit is given where credit is due. Please review and I'll see you all in chapter 2. Peace out!
