Doom: Core of hell
Chapter 2
Apparently Tie was the only one caught off guard by the surprise orders- by the time he made his into the armoury, more than half of his squad mates had loaded up and were awaiting Maxis' order. When Tie walked into the dank room, the Sergeant glared at his violently. He sighed and slipped over towards his locker. With a few swift turns of the dial, the metallic lock clicked off and he swung it open. He didn't waste any time grabbing his standard issue rifle, along with his sidearm 9mm. He quickly joined the rest of the crowd, noting that the only two marines that had not yet arrived were Linda and Jerry. Figures.
"Lazy bastards…" Maxis grumbled, checking his watch impatiently. As if on cue, the duo popped through the doorway clumsily, the most noticeable features being the lipstick smeared across Jerry's smug face. Rolling my eyes, I adjusted my rifle and made sure my clips were loaded. Check. I had only just slapped the round back into the gun and checked that the safety was on that Sergeant Maxis spoke up in his annoying, macho voice.
"Alright, marines. Here's what's going to happen down there." He pulled a projection clip out of his pocket and switched it on. A blurry, turquoise hologram of the Delta labs appeared in front of our red, sleepless eyes. " Here is your entry point." He pointed to a small doorway, which resided directly beside us. " You will go in through there and continue on through to the labs areas. This is the first area to have any reported disappearances, so begin your search here. Once this area has been swept, continue to the central processing and on through to the airlock." He pointed stiffly to a hatch, displayed on the hologram, which led outside. "You will continue through the hatch, using your suits' oxygen supply, and search this area as well. Then continue to the next indoor segment, simply named Delta Labs 2, and do a thorough search there. After this, get on the monorail, take it up, stopping at both halts the monorail makes to clear both areas, the Sick bay, which has an extremely high level of disappearances, and the Power Generator, which supplies power to the next monorail. Search this area carefully and thoroughly- this area has the highest level of disappearances in the entire station.
"Restore power to the next monorail, which will take you to the Delta Transportation Centre, and search this final area." Maxis turned off the hologram at this point, as it was no longer required for the briefing. "The teleportation system went out of order mysteriously when the disappearances began, so you'll need to power it up manually. Use this Magnetic Pulse Device to shock it back into operation-" He plopped a lightweight metallic carrying case onto the floor, which Deen, our technician expert, promptly picked up. " And hack into the mainframe to boot it up so you can teleport back to the main base, completing your mission successfully." He glanced at each and every last one of us to make sure we understood, and the affirmative, yet excruciatingly tired, looks he received told him that he had chosen the right people for the job.
With a satisfied nod, Maxis smacked the button next to his and the hatch behind him opened. My squad and I marched past him and into the dark tunnel, taking our helmets from the supply table next to the doorway and clicking them on, making sure they were sealed completely before we clicked them down. "God speed, gentlemen." Maxis said behind us, and with that, the hatch sealed shut behind us, sealing us completely in darkness
