Prometheus Unbound
Do you regret it Prometheus?
Dianna didn't expect an answer. When you were chained to a rock by Zeus, and experienced a vulture tearing out your liver on a daily basis, one couldn't expect a titan to respond to the thoughts of one woman, immortal or otherwise. Certainly not one in the heart of the mortal world.
"Tea, madam?"
"Oui, vous si plais."
She took a sip of the beverage as she watched the fireplace of Le Chateau do the dance of the forge god. Tea and coffee were two inventions of Man's World that she had come to enjoy. Less so the inventions that they used to slaughter one another just a few miles from here. Where men who primarily spoke the languages of English and French did war with those who spoke German. Did so through all matter of means that would make Ares proud. From the bayonet, to mustard gas, to the fire that came from their guns and cannons. Already they were developing mechanical chariots, encasing their riders in armour like knights of old. Propelled by the burning of fire, sending out smog into the air.
And so she wondered if Prometheus regretted it. Giving Man the gift of fire. Giving mortals the means to rise above the animals that surrounded them. To allow them to leave their homeland and spread across the globe, some of them even coming into contact with the gods themselves. Had he known, then, what mankind would do with his gift? That the thing that had kept them safe in the dark, that had kindled their civilization, was the same means that they now used to destroy it? To send their dead to Hades in waves that would subsume the Styx itself? What now?
And what am I doing to stop it?
Nothing, she reflected. Nothing but sipping tea, and eating biscuits, and wondering in-between reading the newspaper and listening to the wireless whether escaping the madness would be worth returning to Themyscira. To face her mother and her people, to admit that Man's World was beyond saving, and that she had been a fool to think otherwise.
But, she admitted, at least the tea was good.
A/N
There's a moment in Batman v Superman where when Lex mentions the titan Prometheus in his library speech where Diana rolls her eyes. Far as I can tell, the only Prometheus in the DC Universe is an anti-hero that's a sort of inverse of Batman (don't correct me if that's wrong, I don't care), but I suppose in the DCEU, anything goes. Enough to drabble this up at least. And reflect that in a film titled Batman v Superman, Wonder Woman was one of the few things I enjoyed. :(
