Chapter 1: First Day
Dawn's POV
OMG! I can't believe it! Yesterday, I got a letter. It said I got accepted to Lavender Academy! It was my dream to get in! I'm so happy! When I had seen the official stamp, my heart had started to hammer in my chest. My palms were clammy as I opened the letter, and my throat went dry. I had almost choked when I read those beautiful words: 'Congratulations, Dawn Hikari Berlitz, you have been accepted to Lavender Academy.'
Basically, Lavender Academy is gifted school for gifted people. My gift is music. I can sing and play any musical instrument. I first started playing the piano, when I had a dream about a song. I copied it, having a perfect memory for the tune. Did I mention I'm only sixteen? My mom calls me a prodigy. Lavender Academy is located in Goldenrod City, in the Johto region. My mom was so pleased that I had got in, that she stopped everything in my old hometown of Twinleaf, and moved to the quieter area on Goldenrod. I had started a tad later than the others (in November), because it took a long while to get accommodated. I had moved late in August, but furniture and Pokemon had to be shipped, and I had to explain to my grandmother about why was leaving. My mom had to find a replacement for her at her own company, and builders worked on our house to make it perfect. The re-decorating took so long, that we still have unpacked boxes to get a move on with.
Anyway, right now my mom is freaking out because she has seen me with my guitar case on my back (I'm allowed to take it since I got accepted for music). Every time she sees me with something remotely to do with music, she gets all teary and unbearable to be around with. I have no idea why I put up with her, she's one of those psycho moms.
"Bye, sweetie! Remember: Don't let anyone bully you! Is your guitar polished? Did you iron your panties like I told you?" she asks frantically, brushing down my clothes. She eyes them, and I clench my eyes shut (she's going to judge me on my outfit again...). Fortunately, she just takes a deep breath and smiles at me. I am wearing a navy blue t-shirt, with the words 'Sk8r Boi' on it. I wear black skinny jeans, and a silver belt over my t-shirt, to keep everything together. My red high tops complete the look, and my denim backpack...ruins it.
My midnight colored hair cascades down my back, straight and shiny. Some people call me goth, with my porcelain complexion, and my liking for wearing darker nail polish. I prefer to call myself a rebel, though. I'm not a goth, they wear black too much.
"Mom! Stop that! I'm sixteen for crying out loud! Don't baby me!" I tell her, clearly embarrassed.
She nods and pushes me out the door (WELL THANKS MOM!).
I take a deep breathe and start walking. I get to the gate that gets my from my front yard, when I hear my mother's voice.
"Wait! Dawn! You forgot your skateboard," my mom shouts from behind. My skateboard is a birthday present I got from my dad before he died. I take it with me everywhere, and I prefer not to have it gone from my sight. It is black, but the bottom of it has flames on it, with green spray paint over it saying 'DHB' (my initials'). The wheels are neon pink, and it looks very battered, as I use it too much.
I take it from her and smile. She lets me go.
I walk through the streets, looking at the Gym, and a casino. Goldenrod looks so busy and full of life. Twinleaf was so snowy, that people didn't really look at it for it's true value. I think I'm liking the Johto region, though. I arrive at the school. When I get to the front gates, I gasp.
It's so damn big! It is colored cream, and it has many floors. The doors look automatic, and the grass looks cut to perfection. The windows look clean, and plants cover the front field of the school. Numerous flowers make me grin with giddiness. I watch as people start to filter in, but the number of pupils seem to be diminishing...?
I walk through the main doors in a hurry.
Okay, so my locker is number 432. Hopefully it's a nice locker? I don't want it to be next to the cafeteria, as people drop food around there. I don't want it to be next to the Gym, as sweaty people would come out, smelling like last week's socks. I don't want it-
I check my watch. Shit. I have to hurry!
I check my schedule. Okay, so I have my Music first (Yay! My gift). Apparently, Music is in room four. I better skip visiting my locker! I find my way to the music block with my map, as I frown at the big school. The hallways have expensive looking marble floors, and the turquoise lockers cling to all of the hallway's walls like a vice.
When I get to the classroom, I can hear the lesson already starting. Crap. I always have a tendency to get off on the wrong foot with teachers who think I turn up late all the time. I was hoping that with this school, I wouldn't have to deal with this.
I better go in quietly… I open the door really quietly, and slowly, just as I hear the teacher writing on the board with a squeaky pen-CLANG! That's just great! I slipped on my skateboard. I sheepishly picked it up, staring at the woman teacher.
"And who might you be?" demands the (really young) teacher. Her hair is a beautiful auburn color. She wears a white blouse, blue skinny jeans, and a sky blue blazer over it. Brown sandals adorn her feet.
"Umm… I'm Dawn. The new girl," I say awkwardly as I fiddle with one of wheels on my board. I can feel the whole class staring at my. Their eyes bore into the side of my head. They're probably judging me.
"Well, my name is Miss Summers! Welcome to my music class!" she exclaims with sheer enthusiasm. I sweat drop, noticing that she doesn't dwindle on telling me off.
I nod, before murmuring a 'thanks'.
"You will be sitting next to Paul for this whole year. Paul, wave for Dawn please.," Miss Summers tells me quietly, her demeanor changing dramatically. I wonder why she's suddenly like this?
I peer over to the waving boy, who waves slowly, bored. He has plum coloured hair and the biggest frown I've ever seen (well he's a happy boy, eh?). He wears a black t-shirt that shows his toned chest, black jeans and black sneakers. I then realize why Miss Summers changed. This boy must not be a happy camper.
I walk to my new desk, placing my guitar and skateboard underneath it.
Miss Summers smiles, before going into a speech about Mozart, and some incredible composers of all time. I listen, interested. Composers like Beethoven and Mozart were my favorites, and they actually produced brilliant pieces. I'd prefer to listen to my favorite bands, like Foo Fighters, but I wouldn't mind listening to them.
I must really like her class because before I know it, it's finished!
"Well class, I have finished my lesson but it seems we have fifteen minutes left! You can have free time!" she explains and settles on her desk, reading a book. I take a glance at her book, and see that she's reading a book called: 'The Life of Maria Anna Mozart'. She was the sister of Wolfgang, and was a brilliant composer, like her brother. The only reason why she wasn't as well known, was because she was a girl. People in those days regarded women as stupid, and were meant for cooking and cleaning the house. That's totally degrading to the human race.
A few moments' after she says that, everyone crowds around me!
A boy with raven spiky hair starts speaking first, "So what's your gift?" He wears a simple red t-shirt, black tracksuit bottoms, and blue high tops.
I take my guitar case out from under my desk. I look at him, then my guitar, then him, them my guitar and finally him again. I then tap my guitar a few times.
He looks at me blank.
"Well… My gift has something to do with this guitar. Can you guess?"
"Um… Do you make instruments?"
"MUSIC! MY GIFT IS MUSIC!" I shout at him, clearly pissed (did I mention that I have a tiny anger problem?).
"Oh. Well, my gift is athletics! Also, my name is Ash!" he introduces, clearly not fazed by my shouting at him.
At that point, everyone starts asking me questions. I don't know who to answer!
"What's your full name?" (Dawn Hikari Berlitz.)
"Where are you from?" (Twinleaf Town in the Sinnoh region.)
"How old are you?" (Sixteen.)
"Will you go out with me?" (NO!)
"SHUT THE HELL UP! CAN'T YOU SEE SHE CAN'T ANSWER ANY OF YOU IDIOTS?!" Paul shouts, frowning at them all.
Everyone is quiet, looking away from Paul's death glare. I sheepishly put some books into my backpack, scratching the back of my head a little.
The bell rings, echoing through everyone's minds. Saved by the bell!
I run out (carrying my guitar case and skateboard) and navigate my way to my locker. I turn corners, until I get to a busy part of the school. My locker is near to a History class, so I'm relieved that I haven't been placed anywhere bad.
I stuff some stuff into my locker and sigh. I need to jazz up the inside, since all there is, is a little mirror on the inside of the door. I'll need to add small posters and tiny pictures.
I hear some one slamming their locker right next to mine. It's Paul! I smile, about to thank my 'savior'. I'm really thankful for him getting me out of that tight situation.
I tap him on the shoulder and he turns around to face me (still wearing a frown). I raise an eyebrow at his face, wondering why the frown is plastered on. Was he born that way, or did he get that frown slapped into him (HAHA, GOOD JOKE!)
"I just wanted to say, thanks for standing up back in class," I thank, giving him a friendly grin.
"Yeah, well, don't count on me to do it again. It was only a one off," he grumbles sourly and starts to walk off. I frown and tap him on the shoulder, harder than before.
"Hey! That's not a nice way to regard someone!" I scold, my voice rising.
"I don't regard anyone nicely, Troublesome. Especially to someone like you," he sneers, before stalking off.
WHAT A JERK! FUCK HIM! I'm not...Troublesome, am I?
I sigh again. Is high school always supposed to be like this?
Well that was my first chapter. Do you like Dawn as a tomboy or do you want her as a girly girl again? Tell me through your review or PM me! Please… review, review and review!
