CHAPTER ONE
Sara was in the break room sitting on the couch sipping hot coffee reading a forensic journal when Nick and Warrick came in talking about some football game.
Nick had been in love with Sara since the day she came to Vegas, Nick was her closest friend, yet he didn't know about her past either. Nick figured something had to have happened to Sara to make her so closed off, but not in his wildest dreams could he imagine what it really was. Warrick and Nick grabbed cups from the cupboard so they could get some coffee. Nick poured his coffee and went over to where Sara was sitting on couch and sat down next to her. "Hey Sara, how are you?"
"I am fine Nick." Sara looks at Nick and she smiles at him, he always could get her to smile no matter what kind of day she was having. Nick just had that kind of effect on her. He was her best friend and she loved him, but could never tell him that. She couldn't take the chance of losing him like that if he didn't feel the same way. There was her past that no one knew about but Grissom. Sara thought it was funny that everyone thought she was in love with Grissom. She would always love Grissom because of what he did for her but she was not in love with Grissom. He had saved her life, literally. Sara could never than him enough for what he did.
"Sara, are you really okay? Last night's case was hard on you; I know how you are about rape cases and domestic violence cases." Nick was concerned about her. He knew something was wrong but he didn't know what.
"I was upset Nick as you well know but I am okay. You don't have to worry about me." Sara looking at Nick smiles at him letting him know that she was okay. She appreciates Nick worrying about her but he didn't need to she would be okay. She had survived a lot in her life and domestic violence and rape cases got to her the worst and Nick knew that they did. She had got the guy that had raped, beat then murdered his girlfriend. He was going to go away for a long time, so she was okay. She had brought justice to that girl. She could never bring her back but she did get justice for her and she got the bastard who hurt her, who killed her.
Catherine walks into the break room and heads for the coffee pot which Nick and Warrick had just finished getting a cup of Greg's Blue Hawaiian Coffee. Greg walks in and gets a cup of coffee before looking at Sara, he had been in love with Sara since he met her. He was in for a shock when Sara's past came out, they all were, and it would come out sooner than anyone expected. Sara thought she was finally safe, that she was free from her past. She was wrong.
"Hi, Sara." Greg says looking at Sara with longing. If she would just give him a chance he could be the man for her. "Well I'm off back to the lab." Greg says before he leaves.
Grissom comes into the break room, "Sara, I want to see you in my office before I hand out assignments." Grissom leaves.
"What do you think he wants?" Nick asks curious as to why Grissom wanted to see Sara in his office.
"Don't know." Sara looks at everyone, they are looking at her. She puts down her coffee cup and forensic journal that she had been reading, gets up and follows Grissom to his office.
Nick, Warrick and Catherine wonder what is going on and why Grissom needed to talk to Sara.
Sara enters Grissom's office. "Please shut the door." Grissom says. Sara shuts the door curious as to why he wanted to talk to her and why he wanted her to shut the door. The blinds are already drawn. She takes a seat in front of Grissom's desk.
"What is it Grissom?" Sara asked confused.
Grissom looks at Sara from where he is sitting behind his desk and hates what he is about to say, wishing he didn't have to tell her. "Bryon Thomas called me today, say-"
"What!" Sara yells loudly.
Nick, Catherine and Warrick hear her in the break room and Nick wonders if he should get up and go see what is going on. He starts to get up and Catherine shakes her head and says, "Nick sit back down." He looks at her and sits back down, wondering if he should go in there and knowing it's not his place, he was Sara's friend but she doesn't know that he is in love with her.
"Sara, let me finish, he's here in Vegas and knows that you are still alive." Grissom finishes knowing what this will do to Sara.
"Oh God NO!" Sara exclaims. "What am I going to do?" Sara went pale at this news.
"Saras, you are not the same person you were when you were with Bryon Thomas. You have come so far since I faked your death. You are not the scared frail woman that Bryon made you into years ago. You are a strong woman now, not a frightened woman scared of doing anything that Bryon didn't like for fear of what he would do to you." Grissom looks at Sara noticing her color slowly coming back.
