Couldn't they have left the door unlocked
Just to let me see the stars,
Supply this room a tiny window
So I could hunt down mars?
Is it not a simple task
To let me lean against the glass and sigh,
When thanks to you, I already had
To kiss my freedom a bitter goodbye?
These memories do cloud my mind
It's up to me to keep it straight,
As your strange machine keeps hurling me
Into inconsistent dates.
Hurling me across centuries
Just what are you searching for?
Yet still I give you what I can
Yet still you hunger for more.
Like beast you are
You just had to ask!
Or perhaps lying would
Beckon me to your task?
Instead you greedily take
What lies in your sight,
Kidnapping innocents
In the dead of night.
Like sheep we are to you
Or at least that what it'd seem,
From what exchange I've had with you
Or perhaps it's simply that wolfish gleam?
Lambs we are to you,
Blind, oblivious, herd mentality,
Follow each other off a cliff
Were it not for your hand in reality.
Better the lamb, blind we may be
Than the wretched wolf in disguise,
As the Sheppard, leading herds
Knowingly into sacrifice.
Perhaps somehow you might see
A greater good that you might preach,
But I never did have faith in those
Who won't practice what they teach.
So, window and stars are out of reach
As I wait for that fateful last day-
All I have left are memories in my head
Instead, for now, I choose to pray
Pray for the courage the day I die,
Or at least for dreams of the endless sky.
