There were bombs being hurled at random through the countryside as John tried to make the decision. Die and save everyone, or live and condemn the Earth?

There was a loud bang, louder than the rest and a sharp flash of light, and a young woman appeared in the room, her hair neatly tied into two ponytails.

"What?" Joan asked.

"Listen, no time to explain," the woman said. "So, where are we? I'm guessing that the Doctor has been turned into a human called John Smith, and that means you must be -"

"Joan Redfurn."

"Who are you? And how do you know this?" John stuttered.

"I'm, well, at the moment I seem to be your guardian angel," she grinned, "Honestly, how many times can you nearly get killed? Anyway, I've got to look after him," she indicated the Doctor, "And prevent him from getting himself killed. No easy job."

"See!" John yelled, pointing at Rose. "See, that's the sort of man he is! Always in danger, never safe, always putting him people in trouble!"

"Who says that's a bad thing?" Rose asked curiously. "Trust me, I'm even worse than him, he's had to save me a couple of times. I'm just repaying the favour."

"I don't want to," John sobbed, not to Joan but Rose.

"Apparently you wrote a book, and you've drawn a picture of me in it. You remember fragments of me in your book, some of the memories have slipped through," Rose told him. "Can I show you my memories?" John nodded as Rose stepped forwards, touching his wrists and closing her eyes. His mind was flooded with images - Every hug and flirt, their emotions. The times when he'd stop working and would just smile at her, and she'd smile back. Then the war, and Darlig Ulv Stranden. The words never quite spoken by the Doctor, but meant all the same.

"That's all in the past," she whispered in his mind. "Your past. And this is what is in your future." The reunion, the Doctor telling Rose he loved her. More hugs, more happiness. "I haven't even told the Doctor this yet - the Doctor in the future. There's no way he would have allowed me to solve all your paradoxes if he knew -" John felt a small pulse under Rose's, and the feeling of another life form.

"You're pregnant," he stuttered.

"Yeah," Rose said quietly. "I'm pregnant with a child who needs their daddy. Please, please... Please send the Doctor back." John nodded, slowly pressing the watch as it transformed him back. The Doctor collapsed on the floor, unconscious, to the distress of Joan. Rose delicately knelt down, closing her eyes and grabbing his wrist. As she stood back up, she spoke to Joan.

"Listen, Joan, you can never mention this to the Doctor, me being here. I've put a mind block up so he won't remember, but don't tell the Doctor I was here. It will damage time and kill the entire universe." Joan nodded as Rose disappeared, and knelt down next to the Doctor. She'd never tell the Doctor. The whole universe was at stake if she did.
