Something that could've been.
The moon shone brightly, outlining the muscular form of the cat that stood by the small stream than ran through his territory. The cool breeze of leaf-bare blew by; ruffling his fur and making him shiver slightly, almost unnoticeably. His dark blue eyes swept over the part of the forest he sat in boredly, picking up every little detail about his surroundings. Everything seemed peaceful, for now. It was silent until whispered words were heard from behind him:
"Darkstripe"
The cat turned and his blue eyes were met with those of a dark green color, warm and filled with an emotion Darkstripe could not seem to place. He blinked as he spoke also "Sandstorm" he said bluntly, wondering why the she-cat had followed him. The pale ginger she-cat's fur seemed to glow in the light of the moon as she padded forward to sit in front of him "Why did you defend me so fiercely today?" she asked curiously. Darkstripe flinched, remembering how he had scolded the apprentices who had made fun of her when she had fallen while training today.
"Because….I didn't like that they were laughing at you" he said quickly, looking away. In truth, Darkstripe liked Sandstorm. They had been apprentices, but he was into a warrior first. He had liked her ever since apprenticeship and he still did, now that they were both warriors. He could tell Sandstorm didn't buy it "Come on, what's the real reason?" she asked him. Darkstripe sighed, deciding to just get it over with "Fine….I…I like you.." he said, looking at his paws. Sandstorm's eyes widened and she began to speak but Darkstripe interrupted her "I know you don't like me, it's fine" he said and ran past her, back to camp.
Sandstorm sighed after he was gone "Darkstripe….."
Her words were lost in the wind, never to be heard again
"I like you too"
Yeah, not my best work, but whatever. I read another fanfiction about this couple and it sparked my interest. Oh well
