Please be kind-of nice? First story here. :)
People love a Hero.
They look up to them, place them on a pedestal so high that they seem like gods. They expect the world of them; to be able to fix anything at any time. They forget that a Hero is a human too.
Tony was the first superhero of the twenty-first century. He flew out of Afghanistan with his suit, guns blazing, a perfect superhero beginning with a tragic backstory to match.
He survived everything thrown at him: Howard's abuse, society, media backlash, Obie's betrayal and underhanded weapons dealing, Afghanistan, palladium poisoning from the arc reactor, Whiplash, the Mandarin and now meeting the man he grew to hate because of his father, joining his team facing invasion and everything that comes towards them. But what he can't face is his team's, no family's, betrayal or even worse losing them forever.
After Rogers and Barnes, yes they were back to that if not worse, beat him to a pulp and left him in Siberia, Tony gathered heart-broken self up and just barely managed to get back to the states. Immediately he began to revise the Accords for more even ground between the governments and heroes, giving them more independence and with limitations the right to chose when to intervene. He then used all the evidence FRIDAY gathered and got a full pardon for all the imprisoned heroes including Rogers and Barnes. But it had a cost. Tony was now behind bars. He played the 'war' off as his fault and Ross' saying those on his team were following his orders and those on Rogers' were defending themselves. As the past has proven the media loves tearing Tony apart and tale-spun was believed without hesitation. There wasn't even a trial. The next time all the avengers were in the same area the newly pardoned heroes were walking into the Council and Tony was walking away in the same chains that they used on the first villain they defeated together, Loki. Tony stopped, looked at all of them, watching their faces to see if any emotion crossed them be is guilt or hatred and saw nothing but satisfaction. Tony locked eyes with Rogers and simply stated "You're welcome" and walked away. Walked away to take their place on the Raft where he would probably live out the rest of his days. The New Avengers would defend world like always, like the war never happened.
After all the villain was locked up. And the world loves a Hero.
