"Thanks again for coming to watch Jack,"Hotch said.

"No problem,"Jessica assured him," I put him to bed a couple of hours ago, and I helped him study for his math test tomorrow so he should be ready to go."

"Your amazing," he said," now go home, and get some sleep."

Jessica waved as she got into her car and drove away. Hotch quietly walked up stairs to kiss Jack good night. After all his time spent catching evil, it was refreshing to finally see something pure, and innocent at the end of the day. He slowly opened the door, and his hand went immediately to the gun on his belt. It wasn't there, but it was a habit that he apparently couldn't leave at the office.

There was a man sitting at the foot of his son's bed. He had a gun.

"Quiet Arron. You don't want to wake him up,"the voice said tauntingly.

"Leave the kid alone,"Hotch said.

He didn't want to use words like "Jack" or "my son" becuse showing an emotional attachment to Jack, would give the intruder an advantage, and he already had a gun.

"This is what you're going to do," he said," you are going to pick up your son you are going to walk in front of me. If you want to try and outrun a bullet, then go ahead. Be my guest. If not, then you are going to give me your car keys. You Will take Jack to the car and put him in the back seat. You will get in the passenger's seat. Then the fun begin"

Hotch didn't like it, but it was his best shot at keeping his son safe. He gently picked Jack up, and listened to his breathing. He was alive, but unconscious. There was a small spot on his neck. Like one a needle would leave. This man had drugged his son. He carefully walked downstairs, and found his car keys on the counter. He guestUsed to them. The man picked them up, and Hotch carried Jack out the door. He put Jack in his car seat, and got in the passenger's seat. Their attacker was already in the car.

He pulled something out of his jacket pocket, but before Hotch could see what it was, there was a sharp pain in his neck. His vision started to go black, and he faintly heard a voice.

"Sorry if this stings a little."

Ooooooooooo

When Hotch woke up, he was on a bed. Jack was with him. He was asleep. He needed to be awake.

"Jake,"he said softly, but firmly,"wake up."

Jack's eyes slowly opened.

"Dad? Where are we?"

"I don't know buddy,"he admitted,"but I'm not going to let anything happen to you."

"Don't make promises you can't keep," said a voice.

Then a door opened. The man who had taken them from their home. Jack held onto his dad's hand, and Hotch positioned himself, so that he was a shield for his son.

"What makes you think I can't keep that promise?"

"Because, I know fathers like you. You show up every once in a while, you tell your kid you'll be there, but you never come when it matters. The truth is, if you had to choose between your son, and your paycheck, or one minute of glory, you'd give him up in a heart beat."

"That's not true,"Hotch said," I love my son, and the reason I'm not around as much as I would like to be is because there are bad people in the world, and I will do everything in my power to stop them, and give my son a safer world to live in."

"I'm sure that's what you tell yourself," he said," and your son, and your sister in law, and your team."

He pulled a cell phone out of his pocket, and handed it to Hotch.

"It'll be good for Jack to have someone to talk to when you leave him. I'm going to let you call one person to talk to him."
