-Of Fateful Word-

The wedding was set. The pair was overjoyed and relieved that the pressure of setting the date was over. But a greater pressure would soon come.

Foreign matters were tensing up between the Al Bhed and the Guado. Rumors were spreading that the Yevonites were forming an alliance with the Guado. Al Bhed's already decimated troops that had suffered through previous battles were weak. They could soon be annihilated.

When Rikku heard of this fateful word, she almost burst into tears. She wondered if she could persuade her father to speed up the wedding process.

There were many problems with this. First, Cid didn't know of her and Gippal's engagement. Second, with her being the only direct female decendent of this particular leader this would not be acceptable.

---------------------------------------------2 weeks later---------------------------------------------------------

Gippal sighed audibly as he started towards the line of weary men.

A voice that was on the verge of breaking cried out.

"Wait!" He heard, as he swiftly turned around to hear the voice, he unfortunately saw his fiancé.

She was sobbing and begging him not to leave.

Of course they both knew deep down inside, that he must leave and she would stay. Waiting for his return.

Gippal's heart broke as he realized what he must do. Maybe it would work But even though he knew it would hurt them both, he also knew that if he had to face his dying breath in this cursed war, he could not bear knowing the pain he had caused her.

She caught up as soon as he readied himself.

She took one look into his eyes and knew. She knew the pain and hurt of care for her, as always.

He took a deep breath because he knew it would be hard. Then he started.

"Rikku, I have to say something. I love you and I know you love me, but this might not be right. What I mean to say is that you should find someone else. I'm not right for you. It's not you at all, I just don't want you hurt. Rikku, you know the type of guy I am. I would never hurt you but trouble follows me. I love-"

"No, I can't find anyone else, Gippal. You are the only one for me. And you will come back! I know you think you won't but you'll come back if I have to drag you out of wherever you end up. No, Gippal, I will not find another. I could wait an eternity for you."

"Very well, then."

For a moment they were connected in a warm embrace, before he headed off.

Then Rikku started crying and even Gippal almost shed a tear.
