"Step away from the tuna."
Buckbeak looks up at the firm face, eyes comically wide when he sees Sirius standing in the door. He does as he's told, shuffling backward.
Sirius nods to himself. "Thank you." He grabs the dish and plops down in his usual seat. "This is my food. Your food is over there," he explains and gestures before he takes a bite of his tuna. It's the only type of fish that Sirius doesn't mind eating.
Buckbeak looks at him with woeful eyes, if Hippogriffs can even have woeful eyes that is.
Sirius does his best to ignore his temporary housemate, but the look is too much for him. It's probably a look Harry would be used to sporting if he had grown up as a normal child with loving guardians. He places his dish on the ground, close to Buckbeak, whom eagerly bends his head, lapping it up as if it's the tastiest treat that he has had in a while.
"I didn't know Hippogriffs like tuna." When Buckbeak doesn't lift his head in response, Sirius continues, "Maybe you're just special." He reaches out a hand and gently pets Buckbeak.
He has been spending a lot of time with the Hippogriff. There's never anyone in this old house and Sirius hates it. He has been lonely and Buckbeak is the only company he has at his disposal.
It's not so bad. Buckbeak is definitely a good listener.
Like always, Sirius just starts talking. "I wonder how Harry is doing at school. I wonder if his thing with that Chang girl is going okay. How about Hermione and Ron? Are they still dancing around each other or have they finally admitted they like each other. I hope Remus is safe wherever he is, especially on nights of full moons. Snivellus better still be making Remus the potion."
Buckbeak lifts his head, the tuna gone.
Sirius continues scratching the Hippogriff's head. "I hope everyone's okay," Sirius murmurs, a frown on his face.
Buckbeak shuffles closer to him and lays his large head on Sirius' lap, nuzzling into it.
Sirius lets out a short bark of surprised laughter. "So, you like to cuddle? Interesting. At least with you here, I'm not totally alone. Thanks for listening." He rests his head on Buckbeak's immobile head, taking comfort in the soft feathers. Yes, with Buckbeak, Sirius definitely isn't totally alone.
