"Well?" he asked quietly, trailing his hand down her back lovingly. Eyes soft in the morning light.
She sighed contentedly and brushed a lock of blond hair off his face, returning his smile with one of her own. She scooted nearer to him and kissed the tip of his nose. "I love you." It was the most serious she had ever sounded that he could recall.
He wanted to tell her that didn't answer the question. "I love you, too," he assured her. "But is that a 'yes' or a 'no'?"
Their eyes held each other's as she opened her mouth to reply.
