Fire (Gwendal/Anissina)
Anissina was as fiery as her hair color, which wasn't as natural as people assumed. It used to be as blue as her eyes, but the ruby tone suited her better and so did the fact that she changed it herself with Color-Transformation-kun.
She always was one to take control. It applied to her hair, her progressive lifestyle, and even her lovers.
I wish I could say that's why we're no longer together, but somehow the most relaxing part of my day was on my back in her bed. But I had to burn brighter. There wasn't time to relax.

Water (Gwendal/Huber)
Huber was like me. We were both calm on the surface with strong forces deep inside pushing us onward and sometimes crashing around anyone or anything that tried to hold us back. And one night we were both swept away.
A sparring session between cousins turned into a wrestling match between men, which turned into something better left to lovers.
I didn't struggle when he held me down, and he didn't struggle when I held him close. The fight was left for the next day and every day after as we locked that night away, never to speak of it again.

Wind (Gwendal/Gunter)
Gunter was the older man, but I considered myself the wiser. He could be as fickle and fleeting as the element he'd been aligned with. He'd bluster and flail while I remained still and stoic.
But the swordmaster's relation to wind didn't end there. It was clear he could also be just as powerful as a gale force, and, as I learned, just as gentle as a summer breeze.
We contrasted in just the right ways and suited each other.
I thought we were both content until the night he called out "heika." Only one thing finished that night—us.

Earth (Gwendal/Yozak)
I'd given up on relationships. There was work to focus on, and someone needed to do it while my mother chased men and the maou chased dragons and everyone else chased the maou.
I would stay in the castle to keep things aligned and send Yozak out to keep everywhere else in order.
He was a disadvantaged half-breed who followed orders. He was real and honest and of the earth. I was a politically powerful man who gave orders and wielded the earth.
And just as soon as I was over the need for companionship I found myself under Yozak.
