Tap. Tap. Tap.

Impatient fingers strummed on one of the many glass coffee tables in the café.

A deep and heavy sigh escaped soft pink lips.

As usual, Lily Potter had found herself waiting for a late Mr. James Potter.

Sighing once more before putting a full coffee mug to her mouth; she decided to use this time to think.

Something she rarely got to do anymore. Luckily baby Harry was with his grandparents for the weekend.

Thousands of thoughts poured through her mind, but one in particular stood out.

"What if?"

What if she wasn't with James?

What if she had found herself with someone else.

Say… Severus?

She wouldn't have her darling Harry of course, but no matter how much she analyzed the though, Harry would most likely be the only great loss to her life.

Severus would never keep her waiting.

Severus would never go out for milk and baby formula only to come back with fire whisky and liquorices wands.

Nor would he get himself and his pregnant wife locked out of their car in a busy London town in the middle of winter.

If she faced the facts, she couldn't help but loathe the numerous times James had let her down.

The bell above the café door tolled, pulling Lily away from her thoughts.

Looking up she saw a familiar face, holding a guilty expression.

"James-" she began with a sigh but was soon cut off.

"I know, I'm late." James spoke sharply whilst hastily pulling a chair out from the table, and presenting his wife with a bouquet of tulips and roses.

"Again." Lily said, a smile on her face as she took the flowers lovingly.

Again she began to ponder.

THIS was why she loved James.

No matter how much he disappointed her, he still remained the spontaneous man she married, and he never failed to make her smile.
