"Make sure you don't leave the yard, alright?" our mom yelled after us from the door.
"Ok," Itachi and I replied in unison, running down the stairs and into the yard.
"Hey Itachi?" I asked, "Why can't we go into the forest next to the property?"
"Because it's not safe for little five-year-olds like you, Sasuke," Itachi replied with a smirk.
"I'm not little!" I retorted, "I grew an inch over the summer! Anyways, can you teach me some new shuriken moves today?"
"Sure, why not, I'll go inside and get my shuriken. Stay here, okay? I'll be right back."
Itachi walked back inside and I glanced back to the forest edging our property. It wouldn't hurt just to have a little peek, right?
Quickly and quietly I tiptoed my way into the trees, checking behind me every few feet to make sure Itachi wasn't back yet. After a few yards I got more confident and strode even deeper into the trees.
Suddenly, something bright and colorful flicked by my peripheral vision. Turning towards it, I realized it was a rainbow-colored butterfly. I watched as it landed a couple yards ahead of me.
Without a second thought I stomped right towards it, accidentally scaring it and it flew to another bush a few more yards away.
This time I silently made my way towards it until finally I grabbed it in my hands. I opened them after a few seconds and the butterfly flew out and landed onto my nose.
I giggled, watching as it crawled over my nose and finally took off back into the sky.
'Well I guess I should go back now,' I thought, turning around with a smile. But the smile quickly faded as I realized that I couldn't see my yard anymore. I never was good at directions.
Itachi's words came back to me: It's not safe for little five-year-olds.
"Hn, I'll show him!" I mumbled stubbornly, taking off in the direction I thought my house was in. I found out later that I had gone in the opposite direction of my house.
After a while the light started to dim and I grew even more frightened. Suddenly, I heard a twig snap nearby and my nerves had me running away as fast as I could.
I could feel my arms and legs getting scratched and I fell down multiple times until I came across a small clearing where I finally stopped to catch my breath.
I spotted an old hollow tree and I crawled inside a small opening and, once inside, I couldn't help but cry.
I yelled out for my older brother between sobs until my voice grew hoarse. I closed my eyes and wished it all away but I knew that there was no one there to help me.
Every sound I heard made me jump and I finally gave up, rolling myself into a ball, and crying softly.
"You know, mom told us not to leave the yard, little brother," Itachi said from outside the tree.
"Itachi!" I yelled, climbing out of the small opening and jumping into my brother's arms.
"Are you okay, Sasuke?" He asked kneeling to my height.
"I am now," I replied softly, hugging him close to me, "how did you find me?"
"Easy, you're my little brother, I'll always find you," he explained, hoisting me onto his back.
I thought about it for a second then asked, "Even if I was captured by an enemy ninja and I was taken to his hideout?"
"Yup."
"What if I ran away to a different country?"
"I'd find you."
"What if…" I started, but he interrupted me saying:
"Sasuke, you could be thousands of miles away surrounded by hundreds of enemy ninja, and I'd still find you."
"Thank you, Itachi," I replied.
"Your welcome, Sasuke." He replied as I fell asleep in his arms.
